They could launch the Swift Sport as a limited edition or sumtin like they did for the Zen. And now since all this car scene is building up they will have no probs in selling it.

BTW, wonder if they will sell the 1.6l engine alone

The swift sport is set for debut by late next year. And my sources suggest the M16- no VVT. 100 horses+ (at least that's what is under going trial currently). Price range- don't ask.

And about the Palio. The primary reason for it's failure was not just the pricing, but the brand as well. MUL could garner significant numbers for the Sport; given the right pricing...

You'd be surprised at what has already made it to India.

Yes!!!!! Very much exists... The situation has actually worsened after the launch of SX4. Maruti is having serious issues with their plant capacity. They have made statements in the media that they have expanded the plant's capacity but no one is willing to trust them esp with the waiting periods for their top selling cars.

Waiting in Delhi is 3 months... I guess Maruti didnt expect Swift to do so well.... They cant keep up with demand.

As a persistent critic of MUL w.r.t. Swift on account of their not offering the same engine on the Swift as in the rest of the world, I am very happy with this news.

Now will TATA please offer airbags / ABS as an option on the Indica, which they do offer in SA ??

I doubt if the car will have VVT. IMHO, they will share the engine with SX4 and SX4 does not have VVT. SX4 engine outside of India has VVT and here in India, it does not. So I'd expect the same.

Also, VVT will reduce mileage (albeit by a little) and I doubt Maruti will pick a feature that will reduce milease.

I thought it is supposed to increase milage + power.

Can you please throw more light on the milage part please?

From here
Automotive Fuel Economy Program Twenty-second Annual Report to Congress Calendar Year 1997
we find
"... Variable valve timing can improve fuel economy by lowering idle speeds, allowing engine downsizing and improving cycle efficiency..."

Another good point about M1?A engine is that they are chain cam driven instead of cam belt

Never thought that way, and you're right, even wikipedia mentions:
"Pressure to meet environmental goals and fuel efficiency standards is forcing car manufacturers to turn to VVT as a solution"
Variable valve timing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I just went by the comparison of FEs from honda city (VTEC v/s non-Vtec)

I stand corrected.
