Absolutely. Looks are a very important consideration of the entire buying process.
Form and function come first, followed closely by the looks. But not mutually exclusive.

As some have already quoted, I also fall in the same category of loving everything about the Creta but its looks. So, I wouldn't buy one.
Same goes for the KIA Carnival or the Crysta (MPV).

Voted Yes.

I don't need my car to be Alfa Romeos but I will not buy monstrosity like Xylo or qaunta. Looks would be one of the top 3 parameters that I would consider for nay buying decision.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

Depends

As long as the car is not ugly or too flashy, it wouldn't matter.

The only thing that can override the looks is the driving experience and practicality. They hold far more weight than looks.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

Looks might not be a deciding factor for most members here. For me, looks is one of the criterias, but it is not as important as safety, performance, ride comfort and features. Let me give an example, I love the first-gen Mercedes Benz CLA for the way it looks, but I would never buy one because of its mediocre diesel engine and poor rear seat comfort. While the car scores in terms of styling, it doesn't in practicality.

Now, take the case of current-gen Skoda Superb, it doesn't look as beautiful as the CLA to me. Superb, on the other side, just ticks all boxes for those people like me who need extravagant luxury, and a comfortable yet practical sedan. I'd be more satisfied with a Superb instead of the gimmicky CLA anyday.

Voted Yes!

Is there any non good looking car on sale anymore?! I guess even the manufacturer would give up on them soon enough.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

More than good looks I love the flair and passion that has gone in the design and in the making. I love the pedigree, the history associated.

I love the Compass over the Seltos though both are good looking. Levi's over other brand jeans. IPhone, Samsung over other brand phones. Carrier over other brand ACs. Sony over other brand TVs. Jockey over other inners brand. Independent home over flats.

I love brands of extraordinary achievements that have made them the leaders of today!

So it's looks+passion+depth+pedigree for me!

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

Very Important. I am quite picky about how it looks from the rear end too as most people will be be seeing only the rear end of my car more than the front one

Infact, the Live to drive sticker, how will it look on the rear of the car is running in my mind always when we check out a car as a probable to buy someday.

A close second after the looks is the gearbox and handling.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

Looks are very important to me, be it in real estate purchase, home interiors or even buying a car. Ofcourse I would never buy a car which is gorgeous but unreliable, however I would never buy a boring but reliable Toyota for that matter.

As someone quoted: if you don't turn back and stare at your car, you bought the wrong car, that's a thing I strongly believe in.

When I was shopping for my current ride, I rejected the X3 solely on its looks (long snout, hideous grill and a estate shaped body), infact I was ok in buying a slightly less reliable (as per public opinion) but a beautifully shaped landrover than a bmw or an Audi. Thank God in my personal experience, the landrover has been utterly reliable ofcourse the much much better awd helped in making the decision.
If I couldn't buy the current car, I was prepared to downgrade and buy a mini countryman rather than the X3/Q5 just because of the way the mini looked.

Voted for depends. There are other more important factors like safety, build quality, performance etc. As long as the car is not downright ugly, "looks" will take a backseat compared with the other factors.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

Voted NO.

When it comes to vehicles, appliances (and other non-living objects) it's always 'function over form' for me. I'm not fond of the looks of my own vehicles. I've bought them for their utility and love them for what they have to offer.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

The looks of a car definitely matters in my purchase decision. Will try to put up my thoughts in simple words :

1) Gorgeous car --> Questionable Safety --> NO Go
2) Awkward looking car --> Proven Safety --> No Go
3) Gorgeous Car --> Proven Safety --> Go
4) Average looking car -->Proven Safety ---> Go. (My Nexon comes in this)

So I prefer to buy a car which ticks the safety, utility etc with atleast average looks.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

Hello to all.

I voted "No". We currently own a 2013 Toyota Etios (D) and 2015 Honda Jazz (P); the one with the Magic Seats. Before these we had a Maruti Omni and a Wagon R. None of these cars can be called "lookers". My dad (he owns the Etios) has himself called the Jazz "weird looking".

Say whatever you want to, but all these 4 have been the most practical vehicles we have ever owned. The Jazz's Magic Seats have been put to good use when we were shifting our residence 2 years back.

I often tell my 3 years old son; the Crysta will be our next car.

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

I’d say it’s a very subjective thing. I keep the looks as one of the criteria when deciding the car but it’s never ‘the’ factor. Other things specifically the vehicles capabilities are more important deciding factor.

However, for me the subjectivity in looks implies not necessarily going with popular opinion. For example a lot many folks think new creta looks ugly or requires some time to get used to that look. Interestingly enough I liked that look from the get go.
So while looks won’t merit the P0 in my list it’s definitely a P2 P3 when deciding on a new car.

On the other spectrum, I have had experience where I liked the looks when purchasing the car but with years of usage I have kind of gotten meh’d with the looks. The car in question is Hyundai Xcent!

Re: Do the looks of a car matter in your purchase decisions?

Yes Yes and Yes...
Looks is unapologetically the primary criteria for my car selection. Unless it pulls some strings in my heart on first looks, I will never buy a car. My Polo is completing 11 years now. Even today I am smitten by its timeless beauty. Search is still on for a successor with right looks.
