Diesel Rocks

- I choose diesel because low running cost for my 1200 kms average per month. I do not mind even if I pay little extra for maintenance compared to Petrol. I believe now a days diesel engines do not have so much maintenance costs as earlier days. Also I do not mind addtional capital cost.

My relative in Kerala needs a new diesel car with boot. His budget is 5L. He asked my opinion because I talk about cars at the time.

After some research and reading this and other diesel threads, I zeroed on Indigo VS. Any idea how this cars performs? My knowledge on diesels is limited and I dont want to start a new thread.

Another thing... Saw someone say 1000kms+ a month means you can look at a diesel car. I exceeded 12500 KMs on my Alto in the last one year. But, I do not exceed 20kms on a regular day.
Doesnt that mean that I should have brought a diesel car?

My Alto can run 10K kms before an oil change. What maintainence intervals does diesel cars have?

No, they are not, as I mentioned except CO2 (which is a big thing now with global warming), oxides or sulphur and nitrogen are more in diesel as also soot. If they were clean, they would be selling like hot cakes in U.S with the high gosoline prices.

^^Diesel prices are always higher in the US than gas prices. Gas is roughly around 2.70$ a gallon whereas diesel is around 3.10$.

Indica Turbo has a service interval of 5k kms. So, i am pretty sure Indigo too should have a 5k interval. Not sure if an oil change is required every 5k. I can check my manual and let you know.

If this is the case, why do people say that you will end spending the money saved on running cost on maintainence? I have seen it several times on the forum.

Who cares about diesel in the US. I didnt come across a single diesel car. I guess only heavy trucks use diesel.

Why i wish i had a diesel car!!!

1. My friend has a CRDi ... Has run about 42000 kms in one and half years... Translates to more outings with GF... Well... With my wagonR, it burns a much more deep hole in my pocket...
2. I hate it when father says... Lets go by train... Cause, going by petrol car (for long trips) is an avoidable expense...

3. Hate it when a friend with an accent CRDi does trivandrum-cochin on Rs.1000 worth diesel, while i with a smaller petrol car and part- time ac has to spend close to Rs. 1500...

4. Torque- Petrol car with ac... Not fun unless you are revving the nuts of the car, and willing to spend more and more at the petrol bunk...

If only there were options available at all price points...

Why i dont own a diesel car??? Cause the only option then was the Tata Indica...

The Oil change for TCIC (turbo charge with Intercooler) is 7.5 k kms. Now, thats very intersting since it is neither 5k nor 10k service.
Indica owners, have anyone changed oil at 7.5k intervals?
My Indica turbo is at 7k now, so, need to do it, if required.

I love deisels for 2 reasons,
1.) The noise of deisels make thier presence felt

2.) the fuel economy makes me feel good.

Yes pretty sure. For Maruti DDIS it is 10K servicing/oil change.
