How does Testing and Certification of Indian vehicles work

Ever wonder what procedures Indian Mfg/Importers have to follow to get their vehicles on the road/ ready to be sold and registered.

This PDF file gives in Insight.

This also tells us that :

- There are only 2 National Test agencies for Type approval - ARADI and VRDE
- It takes atleast 8 months for manufacturers to get through all these approvals.
- You can file an application against the RTI act with ARADI (primary agency) to get information on which manufacturer has applied for these approvals in the last 1 year and whose vehicles got approved/rejected. This gives you a tentative launch date for all the new models, you might see on the Indian roads.

I checked the link, it takes to the ARAI homepage, but it does not show the list of vehicles that are undergoing certification now.

I know, i had already done all that homework before I posted. But if someone really wants to know, for that s/he need to file a RTI appication to get those statistics from ARAI and its easier for people living in pune to file it.

PS: In my original post ARADI should be read as ARAI, its a typo.

Then since you have already done your homework, can we have some Forumwork, in terms of screenshots!! Lot of us are not privileged enough to be living in Pune.

Role of ARAI in the Indian Automotive Industry

I am not certain if a thread pertinent to ARAI exists. If so, this one is irrelevant. If not, I would like to initiate a discussion on this.

What is the role of ARAI in the Indian Automotive Industry? Who runs the body? Who are the key members? Do the champions of the Auto Industry have a say in ARAI?

These are questions that linger in my mind. Look forward to a great discussion. I am sure the gurus would have answers to most questions in this discussion.

Pls check these threads:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...evolotion.html
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...cles-work.html
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ologation.html

A search for ARAI yields more results, but these seem more relevant.
