Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

The ban is lifted by CAQM and its back to Stage III. Phew can finally take that long planned drive tomorrow without having to borrow a car from anyone.

Attached official copy of order issued by CAQM.

It’s 6PM already and nothing has happened on that front. Wifey went to Delhi today, she says the roads were clear and there was no additional checking or barricading. Let’s hope either the rule itself gets repealed by tomorrow, or no overzealous checking happens. Monday morning rush + barricading or check posts will lead to MASSIVE traffic snarls.

They first brought up the 10 year rule but even restricting the diesel cars for those 10 years doesn’t make sense.
It’s daylight robbery !
Don't forget they still make you pay for 15 years registration and road tax for new diesel cars even now in HR at least . However you can only drive them for 10 years. This is just not done !

Has the Delhi Government issued any official notification yet?

When the ban was implemented, first the CAQM had issued the advisory and then the Delhi Government had issued it's own notification/order. (My understanding was that the CAQM can issue only an advisory - it is upto the Government on whether they will implement it or not - I may be incorrect though)

Going by that sequence, shouldn't the Delhi Government also issue a notification/order withdrawing the ban?

I believe the ban has been lifted since today morning i.e. 7 Nov 2022. This was in news and in the print media also as the AQI is now below 380.

Drove the car from Delhi to Ambala and there was no checking or any jams at borders. Saw in news previously Sindhu border was choked because of trucks stuck there. There were plenty of cops but no one stopped or checked anything on the way.

Looks like the ban hasn't been revoked.

Everyone is confused and no one is sure what is happening with CAQM and Delhi govt issuing conflicting statement. All the trucks were entering Delhi and there was no checking whatsoever yesterday at around 8.30 when I was at Sindhu Border. Even today morning I went to get my cars PUC done and no one stopped and asked anything to me or anyone else regarding BSIV even though I encountered multiple cops issuing challan for helmets red lights on the way. There was a call to protest outside Kejriwal's house yesterday morning by cabbies but as the rule got revoked Sunday no one went and all the cabs are back on road as well.

As someone impacted by the 10 yr rule, I share your pain. But, remember, the road tax rates are set by the state Govt. Even if some court was to strike this as unlawful, the Govt has plenty of options to make sure your outlay doesn’t change.

1. Increasing the road tax percentage for private diesels, or maybe all private cars.
2. Imposing an additional fee on private diesels as they are ‘dirty’, equivalent to 5 yrs worth of road tax.

Nobody wants to reduce their net income, and roadtax is a massive income source for most states.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

This is really frustrating and confusing.
Is the ban on or has been lifted ?
Seriously, the way the middle class is treated in this country, only god knows how we are silent after so much suffering
The rich are influencing the policies in their favour while the poor gets waive off and what not for their vote bank.

Re: Delhi could ban 1 million diesel vehicles to curb pollution

I drove back to Delhi from Uttarakhand, via Ghaziabad, yesterday evening at around 7 pm. There were no checks or stoppages anywhere.

A friend of mine got fined 10000 for driving a BS4 BMW in Delhi. He has now shifted to using Uber and Ola. They do fine but probably sporadically.

Was he issued a proper challan with receipt?
