NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Indian Car Scene.

Just curious. What's with the -1 figure for S-Scross ?

These are factory dispatches and not sales figures. They might have done some correction on figures from last month that's all.

They did not sell a single unit this month and someone from last month returned one lol:

Good to see Indian OEM, Tata and Mahindra, doing good.

Is that highest ever sales figure for Tigor? Is it CNG effect or EV as well?

Are the City and Jazz's numbers interchanged?

Thanks for sharing this amazing date. Great insight !

Personal surprises on the trend (assuming the dealership sales numbers will not be significantly different):
1. S-presso going up
2. Baleno and Swift identical in the last quarter
3. Huge fluctuation in Dzire - between 2k and 18k
4. Scorpio maintaining third position in the category and City on constant decline

Seltos Sales ~= Alto sales which used to be #1. The cheapest car of India moved from #1 to #14. :Shockked:

The new Brezza, despite getting not so favourable reviews and not so great FE has reached ~10K sales a month.

Wagon R + Baleno + Swift + Dzire >= 50% of Maruti Sales

Maruti Celerio sales ~= Hyundai I20 Sales.

Am i the only one in utter confusion thinking, whats happening in the current market?

Vehicle retail sales drop by 8% in July 2022

According to the data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), vehicle retail sales were down by 8% in July 2022, compared to the same month last year.

July 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis-1.jpg

Overall sales for the month of July 2022 stood at 14,36,927 units, compared to 15,59,106 units in July 2021. Compared to June 2019, when 17,94,297 units were sold, total vehicle retails have dropped by 19.92%.

July 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis-2.jpg

July is generally considered a lean month before the festival season starts in August. The 2-wheeler segment witnessed poor demand and high inflation, an erratic monsoon and high cost of ownership made matters worse.

July 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis-3.jpg

The passenger vehicle segment has been witnessing a dream run as retail sales are already higher than in 2019. Better supply is expected to bring down waiting periods in the coming months.

July 2022 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis-4.jpg

Tractor sales dropped by 27.72%, from 82,419 units in July 2021 to 59,573 units.

Two-wheeler sales decreased by 10.92% to 10,09,574 units from 11,33,344 units in July 2021.

Three-wheeler sales were up by 80.41% in July 2022. 50,349 units were sold, compared to 27,908 units in July 2021.

Passenger vehicle sales dropped by 4.66% compared to the previous year. 2,50,972 units were sold last month, compared to 2,63,238 units in July 2021.

Commercial vehicle sales increased by 27.32%. 66,459 units were sold in July 2022, compared to 52,197 units in the previous year.

Car retail sales in July-21 have dropped vs previous year july-21. Also dropped vs last month june-22. Is that an early sign of end of seller's market? My sense is yes, but I guess it will be validated by data in the coming months. Waiting eagerly for the market to swing in the coming months.

Are the number or Honda Jazz and City interchanged or are these the real numbers ? City numbers have fallen from 3000+ to 300+, while Jazz numbers went up from 500+ to 3000+ !! Or was there heavy discount for Jazz due to its production getting stopped??
