Came across this video:
https://twitter.com/kiran_stories/st...92859674263558

I see no evidence of belt usage in the front passenger and rear seats. Not sure about the driver. There is minimal occupant intrusion. Not possible to judge the vehicle's speed without an inspection.

I am not sure where Cyrus Mistry was seated, but my guess is that the lack of belt usage is what killed him. Airbags cannot help if you are not belted. The car seems to have done its job.

There is a problem with the road here. The bridge wall is exposed to the road without any protective barrier in front. There is no guardrail or any other fence to keep the vehicle on the road either. This is a common scenario throughout our country. Our road infrastructure is not forgiving if the vehicle departs the road.

This is very shocking and sad to hear. I remember feeling very sorry for him when he was ousted as unceremoniously as he was. May his soul Rest in Peace

Re: Pics: Accidents in India

The impact is not as powerful as it seems from photos & videos shared.

Not wearing a seat belt could be the reason.

Recalled Princess Diana's accident.

About infrastructure, now probably that particular spot may be corrected. However, this should be done across all highways, finding potential spots & correcting them.

But I am afraid to say, "safe driving habits supersede everything else."

re: Cyrus Mistry passes away in a road accident

Very tragic, RIP.

The front of the car doesn’t tell the true picture. The impact was so huge that the engine has been pushed into the passenger compartment, the dashboard and front passenger seat have practically disintegrated.

I also think so. From this photo, inner side of front seats are bent, might be due to impact of rear passenger(s) colliding with front seats.

It seems, a headrest was given to one of the injured as pillow.

The car a Mercedes Benz GLS (?) MH 47 AB 6705 belonged to JM Financial and was a second owner car. It hit a concrete road divider in Palghar dist. (Mah) and of the four occupants, two have died including Mr Cyrus.

Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed with their driver Henri Paul travelling in a 1994 armoured Mercedes-Benz S280 sedan (W140 S-Class) were killed when it hit a tunnel boundary in Paris, 25 years ago. Their bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, was severely injured but survived the crash.

A lesson learnt is that the safest built cars also need to be handled with care, as such gory crashes are mostly fatal.

Copy/pasting this, not sure if true:

"Four people were present in the car; two died on spot and two were moved to hospital," ANI quoted Palghar police officials as saying.

The two dead people have been identified as Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole. Meanwhile, Anahita Pandole and Darius Pandole, the two other present in the car, have been severely injured.Anahita Pandole, who is a gynaecologist in Breach Candy hospital and a family friend of Mistry, was driving the vehicle. Don't you think the seat belts might be removed to rescue the occupants and transfer them to a medical care facility post the accident? How can one ascertain non usage of seat belts in that case?

Tragic accident.

From the photos shared on social media, that is not a divider but concrete barricade at the beginning of a bridge. The road shoulders near the spot are all wet, seems due to a recent rain. Car was seen lying at an angle of about 30deg to the road, impact being on the front left-middle section. Intial impact may be in a straight line but Car might have bounced and moved into that position after the impact. Initial photographs showed two bodies taken out of the car, one of Mistry and another of a lady. Both didn't have any visible injuries (from the photos). Cabin is almost intact, except for the intrusion of dashboard into front passenger space. That gives rise to suspicion that deceased were not belted. I didn't see any mention of two other passengers in the reports.

re: Cyrus Mistry passes away in a road accident

Heard this an hour back.
Extremely shocking.
Rich or not, our roads are unforgiving to the slightest of mistakes. Judging from the accident pics seems car lost control and went straight into divider. Might be the case rear seat occupants weren't belted. Details will follow later. Such a young life lost. RIP.

re: Cyrus Mistry passes away in a road accident

It is reported that Dr Anahita Pandole was driving and her husband Darius Pandole was next to her. Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole were the rear occupants who were both killed.
It could well be that both rear occupants were not belted in.
