Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

Keep the Jazz for now. I find no reason to even think of selling the Jazz to downgrade to a Kiger. It makes no sense honestly, at least from my point of view. Try to save up more money and upgrade to something even better after the next 2-3 years. By then, there'll be more options suitable for your kind of usage in the market. If interested in pre-owned cars, you can also consider buying C-SUVs like current-gen Seltos or Creta in the used market at that time. Such cars are likely to be available for a song in used-car lot in the coming years.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

My suggestion would be to keep Jazz and do some changes like better, slightly bigger tires, may be Michelin, which would improve your city drive for sure. Also maintain right pressure or may be 1-2 bar less within city so that you get less bumpiness. Also get your car checked for shock absorbers, may be they have some issue, you never know. Also see if you can improve something on that, may be better ones.

No point in selling car so early when there is no other issue. Unnecessarily you will lose quite a lot money.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

I agree with the majority here in recommending you keep the Jazz. My brother has it and after he replaced the tyres a few months ago at my repeated urging, the drive in the city and highway manners have seen a big plus. He also drives with a light foot and is a careful driver over our Bangalore potholes. I have not observed too much bottom scraping in the 4 years he's had the Jazz. I expect the car to agree really well given that it's been mostly hassle free maintenance wise so far. And we've done so many trips this year without any rattles, niggles etc.

And yes, the city roads will see improvement at least for the contractors to make yet another round of money on relaying the same roads. So don't upgrade only for this reason and give up a good car this soon.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

Earlier this year I was in the market for a sub 4 meter car. Evaluated Venue, Kiger, Jazz, Nexon, and host of other cars. Eventually purchased the Sonet (my wife wanted a C-Suv) and Jazz was the second closest on being our car. It's such a wonderful well rounded product for practical purposes. Kiger came in last, and we were only impressed by the low speed ride quality it offered (marginally better than Sonet). The interiors reeked of cost cutting, Renault service in Pune isn't anything to write home about and the it also missed out on a lot of features. Even the turbo petrol didn't seem to satisfy my performance requirements.

To conclude I will suggest hold on to the Jazz and avoid downgrading to Kiger ( WRT to your usecase, where the Jazz satisfies most of your requirements). Like most suggested try changing the tyre size. It won't impact the warranty, provided you change it till an optimal limit.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

I would say you wont find any substantial benefit in going for the CSUV segment other than a certain amount of mental comfort that your car is less likely to take a hit. But that can be mitigated by driving the car a bit more carefully too. Its not like you can drive those sub4m CSUVs with abandon over potholes and breakers. They too are NOT built for that kind of abuse on a sustained basis, how much ever confidence you may have felt in your friends car. So I'd say, stay put, and go for a newer larger SUV as a second car in the higher segment like a Compass or Safari (> 25 lac) in the days ahead. Those cars have better chassis /suspension capabilities than most other cars.

I am also from Bangalore and know the pain when you hear that scraping sound, didn't happen much with my SX4 due to decent ground clearence but my brother in laws 3rd gen City contacts almost all bumps in the city.

I would suggest you to keep the Jaaz, upgrade to a bigger size tyre or alloy or upgrade to a better suspension.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

I can understand your pain regarding Bangalore roads. They have gone from bad to worse to pathetic over the years. I myself have a lowered Skoda Laura (reduced GC by ~20-25mm) with stiffened suspension setup and you can imagine my ordeal while dealing with the roads here or the lack of it. Honda Jazz in its current iteration is a very competent car and I think the GC was also increased a bit from it previous generation (I am referring to the model of 2012 - a close friend of mine owns the Jazz X and I have driven it quite a bit). I think you should continue holding onto Jazz for years to come - yes, you will have a bit of unpleasant experience while dealing with craters and unscientific speed breakers which dotted across the city; but the excellent road manners in highways and winding roads will more than make up for it. As someone already said, Jazz is an international car and it is very well engineered. Consider upgrading the tyres - I think the stock size is 175/65 R15; just pick up 195/60 R15; you will then thoroughly enjoy the ride. Cheers!

I think going for the pre owned route makes sense given your requirements. There are many S-Cross/Brezza/UC ATs available on platforms like Spinny/Cars24. These are very reliable cars and there isn’t much risk in getting one. If you exchange your Jazz for one, it should cost you quite less.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

I was in the same conundrum couple of months before. You can't get a safe/CVT CSUV below 14 Lacs. Finally ended up getting City CVT.

Decent one is Brezza VXI which comes to 14 Lacs.

Lease is not a good option. My company offered it when calculated it didn't work economical for me. I was told I need might need to provide fake petrol bills to make it valuable, strict no for me.

Replying from Mobile, excuse me if there any issues in post.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

A few months ago I was in a similar situation. For exactly the same reasons. It was tiring to drive the Ameo over bumps and potholes. Especially in my area, there's a speed breaker or a pothole every hundred meters - well. Body would ache. New shocks and mounts helped, but not sufficiently.

Once the fatigue became noticeable, I started looking for upgrade. Almost booked a Kiger for its ease of driving and ride quality. But, it didn't feel like an upgrade. Quality was compromised overall. I test drove Jazz and Amaze as well. Amaze had the better ride of the two. Again, it didn't feel like an upgrade. The quality of Jazz was surely better than Amaze and on par, if not better than the Ameo. After exploring a few more cars of different makes, ended up buying a used Yaris. Believe me, it has made a hell of a difference.

The in city rides are smoother and less tiring. Long drives and cornering is not as engaging but very fatigue free. Takes bad roads better as well. It's not feathersoft ride, but just right to not pass the shocks to your bones. So, if you are feeling the road in your bones, you must consider an upgrade. There are lot of compromises to be made - brand, technology, money.

Jazz is too early to sell off and seems you are enjoying the long drives.

Couple of points:

Increase the height marginally with tire upgrade.

Add suspension buffers if you are fine to reduce comfort a little

Why don't you try up sizing the tires or try taller springs? I'm sure Cobra, Eibach or Dr. Nano will have taller after market springs for Jazz.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

Echoing the same advice as most others gave above, I'd suggest you keep the Honda for as long as it serves your current family size & needs!

The Kiger wouldn't be any sort of upgrade over Jazz, just that *slightly* raised dimensions - that's all I feel.

If it helps, would suggest you to try what's called "polyurethane suspension buffers" made by an Indian company itself - which should help you sort out the bumpy ride to some extent. Though didn't much need it on my previous car (Ford Ecosport) for GC reasons, I had got it installed on it, and can vouch for its effectiveness. Ford Ecosport being a gem of a car with sufficient GC, didn't need any more higher stance but the buffers helped to even out the slightly bumpy ride caused due to stiffer suspension setup.

Choose well, whatever you decide to do!

Agree. If you maintain proper tyre pressure, Yaris has an excellent ride quality on bad roads. In addition, the UV glass and sound proofing on higher variants are absolutely worth it.

Re: Should I sell my 1-year old Honda Jazz & buy a Compact SUV?

Most points are covered by the fellow Bhpians.

Kiger is not an upgrade from Jazz. You will very soon repent your decision, in case you opt for the change. This is my personal without meaning any offence. 😊

Upgrade the tyre from 175/65R15 to 185/65R15. The ground clearance will increase by 6mm. I have done the same and have not had any issues with my Jazz. I stay in Bangalore south and the roads I travel are pathetic.

Please check my ownership thread if you need details on the tyre upgrade. Link: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...ity-hatch.html (Honda Jazz ZX CVT | Practical family city hatch!)
