Voted for Tata. As I have mentioned a few times in various posts, they have a lovely car in the Harrier. Tweak its headlamps to be sleeker, sort out all the niggles, replace all those over the top styling with an understated elegance themed interior and sort out the service, am willing to pay and additional 5L on top of its current pricing. Tata is ruining such a lovely product.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

As a newbie I am not allowed to vote but here are the brands which I would like to own:
1.Tata: The styling of their cars make them irresistible but but the amount of issues and the severity of them puts a big aspect on the ownership part. (P.S. We own a Skoda though)
2. Kia: Their products are really well rounded off but their crash worthiness is a big bummer.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

I voted for Maruti.

Strongest points:- reliability, sales and service points, affordable service and spares, fuel efficient engines.

Weak points:- aggresive weight reduction, thinner glass used for windows, reduced quantity of sound insulation.

I would like Maruti to improve the quality of touch points inside the car. I own a 2012 i10 as well as a 2023 ertiga. 2 examples below.

The power window buttons feel flimsy. The thickness of seatbelts is quite thin. Check these 2 in the old i10 and you will realise the difference.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

Can price be one of the 'issues' ?

I feel the overwhelming choice here would be our two domestic brands, especially Tata. If Tata sorts put their QC issues and launch an eye to eye rival for the Thar and ScorpioN, then there is nothing like it.

Lets see.

Maruti- Stronger build quality.
Toyota- Price cut and stronger sheet metal for the exterior body panels. More from international lineup.
Honda- C'mon, we all know what they should be doing.
Skoda- Looks like they Indianised the quality of their cars, but the 'issues' remain. Bring back the diesels, would line up for the Kushaq and Slavia.

Ford- If they could sort their profitability for Indian market problem.

Mazda- If they could grace us by their presence in the Indian market.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

I was going to give this thread a pass since I recently took the plunge and bought a Skoda, without waiting for them to fully iron out all the kinks.

However, I realized that I have never ever considered our homegrown marques.

Mahindra need to work on their niggles, fit/finish and most importantly styling. Their proportions are always off, lines all over the place and the general design a visual cacophony (the Thar is an exception of course, it looks almost perfect!). If they could deliver a product which is mature in styling, with good fit and finish and niggle free + all the stuff going for the XUV 700, i'll definitely consider them. This is why I voted Mahindra.

Tata nail their styling for the most part, but they have a long way to go with other more important stuff.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

I voted for Tata. I don't own a car yet but am window shopping (read browsing the internet) for one. I am targeting a premium hatch and the Altroz looks so good. But the horror stories of sales and after sales experience is giving me some doubt. Its making me look towards the i20.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

I would love to buy a Skoda car and keep it for 10 years without running into issues.

I have been able to live this dream with Maruti, Hyundai, Honda and currently testing Kia for the same.

I hope my next car would be a Skoda only if the reliability factor is made real!

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

I voted for Renault as I always liked the way they innovate and bring great products. Technically we used to have a Duster in our house and that is the reason for my soft corner for Renault. The issue with them is that all their cars have some big issues to begin with and I don't have confidence that they are going to last long in the Indian market.

Voted for Jeep.

Despite minor issues here and there, I absolutely love the car. It is completely let down by their service experience.. some unwanted rattling noise in the facelift models is another issue. Not talking about cost as I am ready to pay a premium for the brand. After all it’s a Jeep!

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

While not very cool with choosing a brand as my next car I shall be contented with my thinking process zeroing upon whether I'll own a sedan, hatch, mini car, SUV/MPV or MUV?

Yes, I am not at ease with choosing a brand right now, because even some auto industry veteran couldn't have predicted that Harley, GM and Ford would wind up and leave our shores . Thankfully, the way Daewoo the South Korean chaebol collapsed doesn't happen here, but we have other South Korean car makers present here.

The prudent way would be to zero upon the class of your next car and the features it is required to have that would be cool for you. After such an exercise, choosing the right brand from the lineup available then just prior to your buying a car, will be a pragmatic decision.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

Have never owned and Indian brand. But i would so love to be a part of that family. The problem is that though our brands are within hand's reach of the most established international brands, they just need to acquire some more polish and perfection for their finished product. So, I have voted TATA and Mahindra will come a close second.

With TATA : The strengths are great Design, Excellent build and Future focus. However, they always give a little less than the competition (the incomplete ADAS package announced in the AUTO EXPO). It is as though they gave up trying just short of the finish line. They are almost there, but not quite there.

With Mahindra : The strengths are their engines, their absolutely VFM packaging of the product and the speed with which they bring in products to stay relevent in the market. However, their products are often a little halfbaked as far as the electronics are concerned and their designs are too 'in your face' (hopefully this changes with the new design head they have brought on board)

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

Skoda / VW
Issues with them

- reliability / long waiting period for parts if some thing critical goes off/ sluggish product strategy (why no Fabia, Kushaq seems to offer less than competition , not present in Harrier / XUV segment) / booking slot for annual service is like IRCTC booking

In fact i am in market for an upgrade but Kushaq is too small for my needs and Kodiaq is too expensive on my pocket :(

- What i want
Low cost of ownership / Wider dealer, service network / an aggressive product strategy

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

Voted for Jeep. I drove VW Polo for 8+ years and now we own a Kushaq. I have never driven a Jeep but love it whenever I see one on road. Hope the cost is brought to expectations and the overall brand reputation becomes more stable in terms of service and after sales. Nothing is perfect and hence I feel Jeep seems to be the one that I may love in future to feel the difference.

Re: The brand you'd like to own in the future, if they sort out their current issues

Voted for Jeep. I always wanted a 4X4 affordable small SUV. I had to settle down for a VW Taigun, because of the personal ownership reviews I read about Jeep Compass here.
The moment Jeep overcomes their shortfalls on compass (or any entry level <25L on road models) I would sell my VW and join Jeep club.

VW Taigun - Within 10K KiloMeters, I got my first "Transmission Failure", "Error:Airbag" and " Error:Keyless system" . So, if you ask me if VW build quality is really German, I would say, NO. The day they bring exact spares and quality as the ones they make for EU and US, I may buy another VW.

Voted for a TATA ev/SUV. All I want from TATA is a reliable service center that is trustworthy and close to niggles free tech. If after sales improves I am sure there are plenty fence sitters like me willing to take the plunge.
