Cannot vote, but here's my two cents:

TAMO - If they can pull up their socks, improve their QC. Too many horror stories with premium TAMO cars and non-responsiveness of the Babu-run company. They also need to increase their service center numbers and overall service quality across towns.

HMIL - They have it all on the platter already, it's just only that they need to start getting serious about safety and truly strengthen up their body-shells and proactively get the Indian made cars crash-tested and prove that they really care about the Indian diaspora by building safer vehicles.

VAG - Bring back those luscious Diesel engines in a BS 6.2 avatar, improve your service experience and actually Indian'ise your vehicles and not just cost-cut in the guise of Indian'isation. The Indian quality petrol fuel-Pump EPC debacle, the underperforming AC and other basic needs were completely overlooked and leads me to believe that the MQB-A0-IN platform was just means to reduce cost and not truly localize their products to meet Indian tastes.

Currently own a Jeep with no issues so far, only grouse is their below or average service. I would still own a Jeep in future for sheer driving pleasure.

The only other brand that I would like to own is Nissan, Qashqai and X Trial looked terrific in unveil, if only they launch.

I voted for Citroen. Ever since their C6 sedan I have always had a soft spot for french cars but I don't think I can ever convince myself to buy one until they offer up some proper petrol engines in our market.

I realllllllllly want to buy and reccomend Hyundai.

I see them as Maruti 3.0 in India (great service network and car options - price, features, and engine) but I can't reccomended them because of their poor safety rating.

Thankfully, now, Tata and Mahindra have surpassed Hyundai in 10+ lakh bracket and Tata has done exceedingly well with Altroz.. But Tata and Mahindras v1 and v2 products are are never the same quality as Hyundai.

Awesome idea for a poll. Would have been even nicer if we could select multiple options.

I'm not listing "if they were priced lower" because, well, that would apply to almost ALL cars :p.

Voted for Tata. Would buy their cars if they improved their reliability. In fact, if reliability and ergonomics (of the Safari/Harrier specifically) was better, the last car I bought would have been a Safari for sure.

But there's a lot more than Tata.

Mahindra, if their products were more sorted when launched and if they tone down the eccentric styling.

VAG's TDIs, if they were still around.

VAG 2.0 cars if their fit and finish was better (compared to VAG 1.0 of course).

Kia/Hyundai if the safety of most of their cars was better. I almost bought the Seltos. The crash rating was the only factor for rejecting it. Even a solid 4 stars would have sold me given how awesome a car it is in almost every other respect.

Voted for Tata. Love the Safari/Harrier but the niggles being reported are holding me back.

Voted for Tata.

I love their current crop of cars sans the lethargic 1.2 revotron engine, persistent QC issues and pathetic ASS. Sort out these, and my next car will definitely be a Tata.

The way I read this poll is that Tata has the most enticing selection that BHPians are not willing to buy. To me, that's pure untapped potential BHPians are calling out.

@TML if you're seeing this, your task is cut out.

Others:

1. I consider safety as a product feature that customers prioritize. It is not an issue. Hence, Maruti and Hyundai (Kia) are out,
2. Mahindra has too small a selection to care. Mahindra lovers will buy a Mahindra regardless of the niggles,
3. Skoda and VW are a lost cause. They have been in the game long enough and still don't seem to care about ASS feedback. No guarantee on DSG, repeat injector and fuel pump failures. They are the next Ford on their way out of India,
4. Toyota sells overpriced boring cars with a petty selection in India,
5. I don't have an opinion on the rest of Fringe sellers - they sell too few good cars in India to care.

Bring back a BS6 compliant Mitsubishi Pajero SFX(no change required to exterior or interior) and take my money.

Its TATA. My decision has nothing to do with the manufacturer. I am very much aware of the huge improvements TATA has made in every aspect of their vehicles. Great range starting from Altroz all the way up to Safari.
In July 2021, I was looking to add a SUV/MUV to my sedan Hyundai Verna and hatch Renault Kwid. Had short listed Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos.
Eventually Creta was dropped simply because I have been driving Hyundai Verna for the last 9-10 years (Verna Fluidic followed by Verna 2017). Got bored of the similar looking dash and other features. Long waiting period was the deal breaker.
Kia Seltos was very appealing with its fresh looks, long list of gadgets, proximity to an authorised service centre. Stiff ride at the back and 3 Star safety ratings were big negative. In spite of its shortcomings went ahead and booked it with a promise of 12 weeks delivery time. Got it in November first week after application of some pressure and follow up.
I had driven Tata Nexon, both ICE and EV belonging to my relatives. Pretty impressed by the fit and finish and refinement. Definitely wanted a TD of Harrier. Called the dealership in my town and politely asked for a TD. Shocked to get a rude reply saying one needs to come to the dealership for a TD and that they do not send the vehicle to customer doorstep. More than anything else, the rudeness put me off. To add to it, I had already heard enough of high handed behavior at the dealership, both at sale and service points. The next nearest showroom is also from the same dealer. There was no point trying any further.
I always wondered, in spite of a range of well built and VFM vehicles, very few TATA vehicles are on road in our area. (except the old Indica and Indigo as Taxi) My brief experience with the dealership got me the answer.

Other than standard German fare if they were reliable. I'd eyes closed buy a Toyota if they were priced at par with their western counterparts. Aren't Toyotas seen as cheap econoboxes abroad? Then why are they charging 60 lakhs for a Fortuner?

As a Newbie I can't vote, but can share my thoughts on this.

To me most important factor in car buying is reliability and perception of the vehicle I am buying. These days cars have become very complex due to lot of electronics involved and therefore, minimum 5 years of warranty (including extended warranty) is the must for the new car, which means I have to deal with the manufacturer's service centre for atleast 5 years or more (can not use FNG due to warranty). Therefore, reliability of the product & service support quality of the manufacturer is very important because I have to visit them once or twice a year for routine service & maintenance.

First name come to my mind to improve is Tata followed by Mahindra, but to be honest I don't think there are chances that Tata & Mahindra will improve in their style of working, they are public limited companies with government office like work culture even in their showrooms.

I genuinely want Maruti to improve. My wish list is better quality material inside the cabin and slightly improved build quality (which they have done for their recent launches). Everything else is just perfect for Maruti. Their showroom & service centre experience, in most cases, is excellent, their engines are reasonably good (at the price point vs competition), perception of their products is very good and above of all their products are extremely reliable & fuel efficient.

Voted for Mahindra.

I have always been a fan of Mahindra vehicles and will surely buy a Bolero or a Scorpio by 2025. However, my friends who have bought these cars have always complained about the electrical issues they are facing. Hope Mahindra improves on them.

Can't vote. But why so less votes to Maruthi?
Is it many owns a MSIL car ? Or have no issues in buying one ? Safety is never a parameter ?
Everybody wants to buy a Tata but afraid of horror stories . None wants to avoid MSIL but their safety stories never came in their mind.
We have a MSIL 07 Alto perhaps which has thicker metal skin than present gen Swift or Baleno and hence, I have every right to comment on MSIL unlike owning one but commenting.

I would definitely buy a Maruti car if they at least provide safe car which doesnt get a dimple or dent when I lean against the door or when a kid sits on bonnet and gets a dent

Tata Harrier!

That was the only car which I remember telling my family: "That is the best car that I can afford, but will never buy "

And that's only because I have heard too many negative stories from my family and friends about their poor service quality.

A close second would be Skoda, though this poll isn't multiple choice.

I absolutely loved the Salvia 1.5 TSI MT to nuts, but it just being a Skoda made my family go Nope. We've heard enough about their dealer shenanigans over the last two decades.

I can’t cast my vote yet.

Tata - Would love to own a Tata in future if either harrier or safari come with a 4*4 or AWD without QC issues or niggles. Tata delivered some gorgeous models and many are on pipeline to be launched in coming years ( sierra & curve ). What’s holding me back from suggesting or bringing any vehicle from TATA into my garage is their infamous QC, niggles and pathetic service experience.

JEEP - Though I’m enjoying a niggle free experience and fantastic service support for my prefacelift compass, the number of issues in the facelift model will definitely influence my decision when I’m planning to upgrade from the current compass. Which earlier was an automatic choice to upgrade to future compass model.
