If Nissan could take care of their A.S.S. and build more service stations across the nation, I would love to have one in my garage. In addition, I would love to own a Mitsubishi Outlander someday.

Toyota if they bring something in the compact SUV segment like the 3OO or even give a value proposition in the 7OO segment. They don't have any value for money product in these segments. I am not looking at the Fortuner, it's way highly priced. The Innova isn't what the 7OO is, so bring in something that is in these segments.

I would and am going to choose TATA in the coming months ( Harrier ). Being in search for a perfect car since 2020 I'm tired with my relentless search. Postponed my car purchase in Ford ecosport with their exit, have waited like a fool for XUV 300 facelift with a changed TC auto gear box but all I got were price increase and feature deletions that miffed me and now have made up my mind to finally settle for TATA Harrier as it covers most of my requirements. I just wish I knew the perfect car is a myth early enough with respect to the Indian market

Voted for Honda. They have everything going their way in the form of Honda as a brand & City MT as a car except for a turbo petrol engine with stiffer suspension & some sensible pricing. Not a fan of their CVT's. Yes, the 1.5 NA is supreme among corresponding NA engines but is no match to the 1.5 turbo petrols that the competition is currently/shortly offering (VAG Twins & Hyundai). If these 2 criteria's were present then probably the City might have been parked in my garage instead of the Slavia.

I wish I could vote Tata and Mahindra both. I'd love to put my money on their product but I want my cars to be niggle free, and the ownership should not be riddled with frequent visits to the service centers with poor customer service and half arsed attitudes and capabilities. I've been eyeing the Thar petrol automatic for a while now and (parking issues for a second car aside) the only thing holding me back is the fit and finish of these Mahindra products when it comes down to sheer quality.

Skoda.

The way I look at this gen Octavia, oh boy!

Probably the last time I looked at a car like that was 2003-2007 Accord with the long taillights, and before that the Mercedes E class when it got featured in an Autocar magazine.

DSGs and ASS from Skoda keep holding me back.

A few brands make the cut for me
1. VAG group: Amazing vehicles with very questionable reliability (dq200, abs, some parts prone to failure)
2. Jeep: Amazing vehicles with out of the world pricing and close to 0 reliability. They also internationally have a record for notoriously high maintenance costs
3. Toyota: bullet proof reliability and amazing vehicles. However, I wish the hybrid tech came to lower trims too.
4. Tata, Mahindra: Some solid products, well priced. However, automatics still come at a good premium and they're notorious for their niggles.

I like the flag german engineering and never owned a german so far. So, I wanted to check VW Taigun this time, But reviews still say a lot negative about their service. Also missing some features like ADAS. The past DQ200 issues still remain a stain, and i'd like to know the new owners experience with the current ATs.

The first Brand that comes to my mind upon reading the question is TATA.
Last year, my uncle was searching for his next car, and was I was helping him with the process by answering his technical questions. He liked design of the Punch and Nexon, but he wanted a proper Automatic. Also, he was worried about after sales service, as he had also read about the issues with TATA service. After a log search, testing the venue, Kiger, Punch, Nexon etc, he got the pre-facelift Brezza ZXI+. Even though it is an old 4 speed TC, he is very happy with it and overall experience has been good.

Honda, Nissan, and Renault should bring some more products in India. Especially Nissan, which basically has only one decent selling car.

Hyundai and Kia can improve a bit on the safety aspect, as they are making great cars, but other markets get the same models with better specifications. They should not treat our market that way.

Toyota does not have a small hatchback or mid-size sedan (Yaris, Corolla).

I, like most BHPians, would love to own a Tata someday, especially a 4×4 Harrier. And, although they have exited the Indian market, I'd have loved to own a Fiat and a Chevy, because barring their ergonomic issues and reliability gremlins, they were fantastic drivers' cars.

I see I voted for TATA when this thread was started. I used to tell my friends and family that come what may I will never buy a TATA car. Well I own a Tata Harrier now lol:

Harrier seemed to be the only product that fulfilled my criteria and after owning Mahindra and VW I had enough of “risk appetite” to take the plunge.

However, during my car search I found “my answer” to this question.

Kia.

I just loved the Seltos in the black shade. It’s styling and VFM variants plus it’s diesel power terrain was perfectly suitable for me but the build quality stopped me from taking the plunge. After buying Harrier I thought maybe I can get a Seltos for myself but my family promptly notified that I can then go and live in the Seltos itself. :crying

Tata is a clear winner, for me as well.

If they can get consistent quality so that owners don't face issues + if they go little beyond and bring the AWD versions of premium upcoming vehicles say Curvv/Safari (not only AWD EVs but ICE versions as well). And servicing should also be a hassle free experience.

Most people in India still prefer ICE as EV infra is not the best and upfront costs are too high to justify till running is very high (and especially if battery requires a change after 8 years, there is no real advantage.)

I really like Curvv Coupe design but that one bad unit that sees owner all over YouTube might stop me. There are many such reviews for Tata.

They need to learn quality check process from Japanese manufacturers.

Also, they need to go beyond the FWDs and launch AWD versions (not necessarily 4X4s). This is second part that would have me looking other options.

Agreed. Ford had a great chance to make it big in India but I don't know why they faltered on product strategy. They did get maintenance right eventually say by 2017-2018. We had three fords in nuclear family, till recently my brother moved to Skoda Slavia. We still have twoclap:

Ford almost stopped launching new cars, and the new cars they launched such as Freestyle, they again faltered by not launching automatic version. Rather decided to launch only Figo/Aspire upgraded automatic.

I really don't understand what the leaders who took this decision were trying to achieve.

Luckily, Elevate by Honda looks very promising. It just has the right dimensions, good engine, looks and now aggressive pricing will do the magic. Honda must consider hybrid version as well and not only electric for Elevate.

You may have forgotten Solar powered vehicles mate. Though they aren't built for the masses, had seen them being tested on tracks.

Tata for sure, and their recent products are so good to look at as well. Always fancied owning a nano, but never dared due to the same issue stated in the subject.
Also, would have picked up a Citroen C5, if they had sorted out their main problem : pricing :Frustrati

PS: On seeing subject line, I thought the easiest winner of the contest will be Range Rover, but couldnt find it in the list. But then it is also a Tata lol:
