My vote would be for VW / Skoda. I hope they sort out the DSG issues and eyes closed, VW / Skoda for my next car.
All the listed companies have more or less one of more car that is good and roadworthy, be it a small hatchback or a large SUV. The only major thing that matters to me is the “Safety” of the car. And for this I am ready to sacrifice major features like sunroof etc. The car must have good star rating, strong chassis, good quality seat belts, isophix, 6 airbags etc. Recently the Government has made 6 airbags compulsory but without any norms for the car body, which by far is useless. If our cars are safe, we can always add features but not vice-versa.
When it comes to car niggles especially in 1st generation of new cars, these can be annoying but can be fixed to a certain extent. However you cannot fix missing safety features and a strong chassis throughout the life of the car.
Voted KIA,
I would love to own a KIA but want them first to improve on their safety related aspects.
Tata, if they sort out the Sales and Service aspects. And maybe a better AT Gearbox in Nexon, Altroz Racer.
Ford - its not listed here, but yeah if Ford could resolve their stuff and if they ever come back to India, I am sure going to buy one.
Out of the list, I would probably just go for Honda if they ever decide to bring some good cars to India which the global markets are enjoying like the Civic type R.
I voted for Volkswagen. Loved their vehicles, with notion of that muted German car luxury positioning (loved the ride quality, handling, model spread; all abroad). However, back in India how much I tried convincing myself to own one (thinking; Touareg long back, and then T-Roc), each time I found that the models were taken out of the Indian coasts (or may be, brought in limited numbers).
And then the story of not-so-reliable or consistent service stations. Reliability issues creeping up in their India 2.0 strategy (or stories around that) also contributed to my views.
Ended up buying a Jeep anyway, where I found the stories from Kolkata (my city) is not so bad as it seemed reading all the reliability issue posts in TBhp and elsewhere. Fingers crossed!
I would buy a Mahindra - a Thar convertible AT to be specific, if they only let me.:)
I have been to the showroom 4 times, called up multiple times and put in a request on their Website once- all in vain. Mahindra hasn't yet offered me the ability to check out a convertible in person leave alone a test drive either at the showroom or at my residence. The pre-sales experience has been horrible.
In contrast, I called up the Nexa showroom just cursorily asking about Jimny and they diligently followed up with brochures, courtesy calls and suggestions to make a booking until I finally said yes.
So Thar is the car that is readily available and is like my first love but the Mahindra family hasn't showed enough interest. In contrast, the Jimny is the other love interest that isn't ready yet ( Jimny isnt even in showrooms yet.) However looks like it will be the Jimny for me because, you know, the in-laws treat you nice. rl:
I voted for Skoda, it is not just for Skoda, but for both VW & Skoda; selected Skoda as I can only select one option. Both are one at the same.
I have driven (test drive) a DSG Laura and recently the Kushaq (for a friend). At the same time, I am refraining from buying one only due to the brand's indifference to the customers. I am sure, I will buy once they change their attitude.
I have a stupid question.
As if now, out of 427 votes, MG got 0.
Does it mean MG is issues/niggles free or people don't wish to buy MG even though it doesn't have any issues.

I guess people won't consider them whether they have issues or not, purely based on politics-- the political sentiment on its origin(although I consider it absurd because nearly everything we get in this country has its origins from China), and the fear of the Manufacturer getting banned (like the Chinese app ban :p ). I had the MG Gloster second in my purchase list, and I thought it was worth it's price.

People who buy MG have already set their minds on the features and VFM nature of the products.
People who won't buy MG would never do so considering the Chinese origin.
So it is like either people like it or hate it. There is no in between like other brands where a couple of
rational factors may dissuade one from buying, if rectified people may consider buying it. Unlike MG, which doesn't have that 'desirabillity' factor. People who are attracted to the features and VFM of MG will tomorrow buy another company's product if it is trendy or offers VFM features.
Definitely, Tata. I would love to own a Tata car especially a Nexon or Harrier, only if the Nexon didn't have an AMT and the Harrier didn't have so many niggles. I would still consider the Harrier provided a facelift arrives soon.
It'll be Mahindra for me. Their products are aspirational, service centers are eager to help mostly(unlike Tata). They just need to iron out the minor niggles which they face later.
Till this happens, Its Maruti/Toyota for me.
As such no car maker is perfect, nor is any one absolutely the pits. But if I have to choose one it would be Honda. The only high profile maker whose showrooms are the least interesting frankly. If they get in a good MUV ( uprated BRV) and a good mid size SUV, they will be back in business. They have one of best in cabin ergonomics and a lot of good technology that they are simply unwilling to market in our country.
Tata: Sort out your after sales, sort out the niggles and QC, give a proper TC gearbox and you have your customer. But unfortunately, don't see that happening anytime soon, one can surely hope though.
Honda: As a previous Amaze owner, engine was quite solid, provided good fuel efficiency etc. and ran for a good 1.4L KM with niggles for purely the A/C and such. Maintenance was costlier than expected, and of course, they never get what people want anymore. Sad to say that they're headed the Ford way, this is exactly what happened to them. I really hope I'm proven wrong here, they have great ICE tech, hybrid too is just fine, they just need to understand the market and give people what they want!
