re: Tata Nexon Facelift launch in September 2023

Yesterday saw the New Nexon with the new steering and a new touch panel on the centre console being tested on the Pune-Mumbai expressway. The touch panel was anything unlike what we see on the current gen Nexon.

The test was happening at a speed of ~60KMPH with windows rolled down, probably could be for ARAI testing.

Came across this article which claims what could possibly be the new Nexon.

Tata Nexon Facelift to get New Hybrid Air-Con Interface

Quote:
This new panel is unlike anything Tata has offered even in its flagship Harrier and Safari SUVs. Nexon facelift will be the first production car to get this and we first saw something similar to this on Curvv concept. This new panel features two spaced-out toggles. Left one controls fan speed and the right one controls temperature.
Quote:
Since there is just one temperature control toggle and one blower toggle, Nexon facelift is likely to get single-zone climate control. Unlike its rival XUV300 with dual-zone climate control. Between both toggles, Tata is offering a touch-sensitive slider that will again control fan speed. This would be handy if you want to adjust fan speed in a jiffy. 360-degree camera is likely to be confirmed as well.

First they removed the round knobs and now the physical buttons. Not sure how I feel about this but for me, physical buttons takes precedent over touch controls.

Toggles are great for binary actions, circular knobs allow much finer control and touch screens offer none!

Why needlessly complicate in the name of innovation or redesign! I don't understand this trend of car makers totally ignoring customer feedback - don't they ever read the posts from members on this forum?

I'd still use the physical toggle to adjust fan speed if I was in a jiffy because I'd know where it's located without even looking.
I hope the rest of the touch controls have some sort of feedback and are spaced out a bit in the production version since there's clearly a lot of empty space that can be utilised.

Until i saw this, i was optimistic about nexon facelift. All hopes have shattered now. Unnecessary change just to get on the stage and say 'NEW'. Dials on current nexon gets the job done accurately without looking at them. Even the air-con system on Altroz and Punch is better than this "futuristic crap". Maruti did it brilliantly with current Brezza, Grand Vitara, Baleno. Instead of fixing the layout issue with centre console, they put effort into this.
God knows what 'NEW' thing show up next for this car.

re: Tata Nexon Facelift launch in September 2023

Well I think this is a good solution considering everything is going touch sensitive. The main controls are being manual like the fan speed and temperature control.

Hope they redesign the central console. So that it has some cupholders whilst having some space to keep knick-knacks.

re: Tata Nexon Facelift launch in September 2023

Absolutely disappointed at this. I like physical buttons and a users muscle memory builds around them. Touch buttons requires users to divert attention to see the button being touched.

I remember reading somewhere that even Mercedes is moving back to physical buttons because of customers preference.

Its these small things that help us adapt to the car. Sad that most car companies just don't seem to give a damn about user experience.

Sad to see this new trend. Soon all these controls will get replaced by a giant touch screen like in a tesla. It's difficult to use, can get accidentally triggered and quite distracting while driving.

The X1 platform doesn't support a 4WD option.

No ICE 4x4s from Tata, for now.

They did mention prospects of an AWD in the Harrier EV.
