Corolla cross Hybrid sold in Thailand (5 seater version) was getting 22 kmpl to 24 kmpl as per YouTube real world fuel tests.

Thailand version has a four cylinder engine, with car length longer than Creta/ Hyryder ( shorter than XUV 700). It is based on same TNGA platform as Hycross. Boot space constraints of Hyryder hybrid are also not there (no stepped boot).

IMO this would have been a great option as a premium 5 seater hybrid car for Indian market - addressing all the current shortcomings of Hyryder Hybrid i.e. 3 cylinder engine leading to high NVH, compramised boot, manually adjusted seats, absence of electric park brake with autohold

We really don't need another space compromised 7 seater like Alcazar.

If the real world mileage is 20+ then it's great news, I was referring to the Toyota claimed mileage in European and US market Corolla Cross

Exactly, a premium 5 seater SUV at 30-35 lakh on road is really needed and there is a big void in the market. Mahindra and Tata options are simply not worth it. Hope Toyota brings in the Corolla Cross soon and hopefully prices in the same bracket.

Re: Toyota working on a longer Corolla Cross for India

Previous generation Corolla sedan itself was overpriced for what they were offering (25Lakh OTR bangalore) and now if they want to launch it in crossover form factor, it will only become more steep. Already we can see in Innova hycross pricing.

If I park my corolla side by side and compare the quality with current Innova hycross, it surely feels like a downgrade when it comes to fit and finish, quality of interior (or say a feature like electronic lumbar support)

I wonder how Toyota will place this 7 seater when they already have Innova

Re: Toyota working on a longer Corolla Cross for India

It should be carens rival.. what I am not able to understand is that what is Y17? People call it a 7 seater grand vitara. Another news tells us that an MPV from toyota will be shared with Maruti (HycRoss ??). In my opinion this corolla cross based 7 seater is both Y17 and shared MPV. There is no point for Maruti selling HycRoss at a premium over Toyota and then why will Toyota share its bread and butter model with Maruti?
This would become in time the XL6 replacement mainly competing with carens and will fall in the same price bracket as well.

Re: Toyota working on a longer Corolla Cross for India

So the innova hycross/zenix is a 7 seater based on the corolla cross hybrid 5 seater which is a crossover based on the toyota corolla which itself is available in hatchback, sedan and estate form.

And now we will have the corolla cross as a 7 seater but in the style of the original 5 seater crossover bodyshell. Toyota is now approaching BMW 4 series gran coupe level of recursive

The Raize is a much cheaper model based on the D(Daihatsu)NGA platform. No way they would be using the Raize brand, when the way stronger Corolla brand is already there.

Like the article said, this could be for a rebadged Brezza or Fronx instead. Going by Toyota's history and the Suzuki partenrship, there is almost nil chance of the real Raize being launched here.

Maybe they will combine Raize and Taisor and name it Raizor. Perfect younger sibling to the Urban Cruiser Hairdryer.

Re: Toyota working on a longer Corolla Cross for India

I doubt how they would manage its production considering the present hycross has a waiting period of upto 2 years. Adding Invicto supply is another burden on existing Toyota production lines.

If this is a long term plan, say 2 to 3 years, by then slowly EVs should takeover looking at the pace of its acceptance in India, with everyone going for SUV stance and bigger sized EVs in their initial lineups.

Pricing may then redner this car useless. Compass and Tucson are no benchmark to look at success in this segment. Alcazar and Carens are MPVs.

I suspect anything conclusive happening from Toyota unless they would like to position it in the 18 to 25 lakh price basket and within an year's time.

Toyota C SUV project for India dropped.

Toyota is likely to look at an alternative to the C SUV in another 6-8 months.

Likely to look at an alternative to the C SUV
Quote:
the project codenamed 340 D planned for a start of production in June of 2026 with a potential annual volume of 75,000 units did not meet the technical commercial viability and hence the company decided to shelve the plans.

The product had a significant exports contribution from India of upto 50 percent – the decision to call off development is also linked to the changing demand landscape globally as well
A lower-than-expected business potential and a focus on sustainable profitable business is what led to the decision.

Toyota is, however, likely to look at an alternative to the C SUV in another 6-8 months time. The decision may mean the timelines for the new factory construction and utilisation may be pushed ahead even as the company looks to ramp up its Hyryder and Grand Vitara SUV production in Bidadi.

Disappointing, but not unexepected. Given that the project positioning itself looked confusing.

@Cresterk had rightly put it.

On the negative side, this means all we would be getting from Toyota in the nearby future is a stretched Grand Vitara.

On the positive side, wonder what would be the "alternative to the C-SUV getting readied in 6-8 months?" Pray we get the 500D project and we become a manufacturing hub for the IMV 0 models in addition to Thailand.
