Most likely as a part of update. Is your car 8,5 from factory or dealer planned to do/ has done. A lot of cars are still coming as 8 and dealers have to do the update. You don’t need to worry about anything, BMW dealers have pretty high standards when it comes to such things. They will not touch anything that they are not supposed to.

Re: BMW X5 Facelift launched at Rs. 93.90 lakh

Update: Took the delivery 2 days ago

Initial impressions;

Beautiful colour that changes with sun light (glad I moved on from the Skyscrapper metallic), extremely comfortable seats, superb 2 axle air suspension, silent & butter smooth ride quality at lower speeds (like Camry), most importantly the B58 - that beast of an engine (382 hp / 550 NM) coupled with an excellent transmission, nice engine hum and that throaty exhaust note at slightly higher revs - totally satisfying. Finally, the Sport mode for some harmless thrills.

The car truly has two characters - ‘Aparichithudu’ types (it’s a Telugu movie name).

Mileage in last 198 km in the city- 6.2 kmpl, I’m assuming that it will settle somewhere at 8 kmpl in the city.

Yes, the car was loaded with 8.5 version before delivery. The 12.5” touch screen which looks totally out of place in an iX, actually fits very well in the X5. Except for the absence of physical a/c controls for frequent use, rest is quite convenient to operate. The screen can also be turned off to avoid any glare during the nights.

Re: BMW X5 Facelift launched at Rs. 93.90 lakh

Question about PPF / Ceramic cote;

Is it really necessary ? Doesn’t it take away the finer colour detail of the car ? Is it better to retain the originality and go for a repaint instead after 5-6 years ?

Just for the record, I never used a screen guard on my phone till date.

Appreciate your inputs. Thank you

Hello,
I'd gotten a PPF on the Pre-LCI X5 two days after purchase and couldn't be happier. It's help up well against two over enthusiastic biker's who've smooched the rear bumper on separate occasions and overgrown bushes en-route to the farm.

Now, 3 years on, there is a loss in sheen, but nothing drastic. I am considering getting it PPF-ed again in 2025, when the car turns 4.

Biggest PRO for me will have to be that the Factory Paint finish will be retained untouched.

Hope this helps

PPF i think is necessary if you don't wanna see small scratches on your cars, but if you can live with them, yeh totally ignore it

i have Carbon black color as well, and PPF enchases the color (tho my installer was very unprofessional )

I have a white LCI X5. I have kept it stock ( without PPF or Ceramic ) but with white I can afford to be a bit lenient. I was using a Tanzanite Blue M340i which was also without PPF but with ceramic coating on delivery and let me tell you that it's a HUGE effort to keep swirl marks away. Tanzanite Blue looks the best when cleaned and polished but is a big dust magnet.

Even with PPF the exterior is going to look similar, just that the actual paint below will remain perfect. But if you can't see it and see only the PPF I don't know how that helps. Plus I personally dislike the feel when you touch and knock PPF covered panels. They don't sound metallic. Just something personal, but that is why I refrained from PPF.

You can do without Ceramic and PPF both but the effort is high ( to be honest if you get both the effort is not less anyways). Detailing the car every 12 months and working hard on it in the meanwhile, in my books is the best way to keep it gleaming !

Thanks Dieselite for a detailed response. I still own a 2016 X5 30d White - haven’t done any PPF or Ceramic. I must admit that the car has aged gracefully with some scratch marks here and there, yes that being white, it’s barely noticeable.

We had gotten the PPF done for our grey iX last year, it has taken away that fine glitter in the grey, which looks a lot more matte thereafter. Plus the PPF plastic feel isn’t of my liking either.

So, ceramic cote being the only option, I’m still skeptical in getting it done, if it’s only for the ease of cleaning the car. You mentioned that the shine / glitter wasn’t muted on your M340i, which is good thing . Thanks a ton for your inputs

You're better off choosing another colour.
I had booked a skyscraper grey 40i MSport in July and was informed about a 6 week wait. Mid way, the dealer called and said that the wait will be longer. Spoke to BMW India and they basically said that we have no idea when it will come back in production in that colour, the dealer can arrange a refund of the deposit.

Had to go with a diesel in the same colour that was sitting in the dealer's showroom (luckily). Love it so much more than the petrol!

Re: BMW X5 Facelift launched at Rs. 93.90 lakh

###Copying my post from a different thread###

With the 8th Gen 5 series hitting the market, I always thought that it was the 5 series that paved the way for the X5 updates as it is in that order that they were introduced, but it seems the other way around this time. If you notice the front headlights of the G05 X5 LCI, they are inline to this new gen 5 series. The same concept is carried into the interiors as well. Would that mean the X5 LCI is a lot more than just a facelift as the design cues are equivalent to the new gen sibling? I maybe wrong but i definitely hope so as it should indicate another 3+ years before the next gen X5 is launched? (Also that would justify the 20L+ increment in prices of X5 LCI )

I have attached the front images of both to make my case -

Re: BMW X5 Facelift launched at Rs. 93.90 lakh

Was reading about the X5 40D offered in UK and other markets. Given how keen BMW has been in introducing performance variants of popular cars such as M340i, the X3 40i and the X4 40i, I so wish BMW would offer the full fat 349 HP , 700 NM variant of the famed B57 3.0 diesel. An XLine 40 D costing the same or a bit above the MSport 30D would be ideal. I know I am day dreaming, but somehow the prospect of owning an power train such as I'm the 40D, that is at the pinnacle of Diesel Technology is tempting before these lovely engines disappear from the face of the earth!

Hi Niruvrs, how’s the tanzanite blue holding up after these couple of months? Especially with respect to swirl marks and small scratches? Did you end up getting PPF on the car?

40i has been holding up well, lot of pleasurable long drives to Mysore and Kurnool, few visits to hyd and Coorg as well. Clocked about 18K odd kms. Yes, it does get muddy very easily and looks dirty enough after the project visits but it’s been easy to clean due to PPF. No scratches and swirl marks yet .

I got the PPF done after the inputs from this forum, very satisfied with the work done by Ceramic Pro (Kavacha) JP Nagar, 4th Phase, referred by a good friend.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the 40i! I have decided to go with Tanzanite as well, and it seems like PPF is a must with the color given how easily small scratches and swirl marks become visible.

Agree, even i got PPF for my Phytonic Blue X3. I used Stek (USA made) from Guy Car steamer in Harlur Road, Bangalore. They did a phenomenal job. Even after 3.5 years the paint is protected, there is no yellowing of the PPF and shines like a jewel. It did save me from 2 bikes and 2 cab drivers around the bumper corners. The PFF took the hit and factory paint was left untouched. It was nice of Mr. Shrey to re-do the bumper corner at cost since the PPF was completely torn in one of the gashes with a cab.
