Re: Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus in new variants to be launched in June 2023

VW/ Skoda India continue to miss the opportunity to improve their vehicles with useful upgrades every time they come up with such cosmetic updates. A fundamentally solid vehicle like the Taigun or Kushaq rather needs improvements to the mechanicals, interiors and electronics that can further up the value quotient.

They need to come out with real facelifts and not these livery updates which seems silly and something that can be done in aftermarket for a much lesser cost. I mean what trail are we talking about with the Taigun ? Its the answer to the adventure edition of Creta which was equally pointless ? The crossovers masquerading as SUVs with manufacturers themselves claiming that they are ready for adventure off roading is a dangerous trend. Naive customers could end up in trouble and we already see enough people out there trying to offload in their Sedans and Hatchbacks. No denying that the Taigun is a good crossover but its going to need some serious upgrades/ facelifts to stay relevant without getting butchers by the Koreans and the Indians.

Atleast launch an edition that gives useful features like EPC, Auto hold, upgraded infotainment, better alloys, upgraded cameras/360 deg cameras, ADAS etc. This way they can catchup to the competition.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus in new variants to be launched in June 2023

The only beneficiary of this yearly "new variant" exercise by VW and Skoda is the guy printing the stickers for the awful graphics on these variants. I am always amazed that an OEM of the caliber of VW with all their catalogue spends all this R&D, ops, marketing and sales effort into bringing this sticker job to the market year after year.

VW back to doing sticker jobs.

This was all OK to keep the ageing Polo continue for a few years. However for price point at which Taigun GT is being sold, it has some serious lack of creature comforts.

For 22L on road, I would consider it only after it has 4 disc brakes, EPB, Autohold, Electic seat adjustment.

Out of the wishlist, electric seats are available in the latest update (Oct 2023)

VW Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition launched at Rs 16.3 lakh

Volkswagen has launched a new special edition of the Taigun called the GT Edge Trail Edition. The SUV is priced at Rs 16.3 lakh (ex-showroom) and will be available in limited numbers.

The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition features a few cosmetic changes that differentiate it from the GT Edge Limited Edition that was introduced earlier this year. The SUV gets functional roof rails and 17-inch alloy wheels finished in black & red brake calipers.

Inside, the Trail Edition gets black seat upholstery with red stitching and the word ‘Trail’ embossed on the backrest. The car is equipped with features such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic headlamps, a rearview camera and TPMS. VW is also offering a dashcam with a 2-inch display.

The Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition is available with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. It produces 148 BHP and 250 Nm and is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus in new variants to be launched in June 2023

And VW is back with a bang with their superbly engineered, well-thought-out, state-of-the-art, and well-researched special edition to take head-on the mighty trio of Creta-Seltos-Grand Vitara. Out of a sudden, with so much attention to detail and thoughtful features (accessories) introduced has made the Taigun a very competitive machine and it punches well above its weight with that roof rail, seat cover, dash cam, etc. The competition will be making a note and ultimately follow the VW suite as VW will be a market leader very soon. Feeling sorry for the competition, how are they going to even pit their cars against the mighty Taigun?

P.S. This is exactly what we expect from the world's biggest manufacturer with deep pockets and a long legacy.

P.P.S. Please find a random collage of the (LEGEND + MATT + ANNIVERSARY + IPL + TRAIL + EXCLUSIVE + BLACK + LIMITED + FOOTBALL + ALLSTAR + TSI + RED-WHITE) x EDITION

Re: Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus in new variants to be launched in June 2023

This must be a joke. I'm seeing lines like "Go where your GPS won’t. The new Taigun GT Edge Trail Edition is ready take on every terrain.", "Adventure calling" in the Volkswagen India website. It's misleading as the vehicle is basically a regular taigun peppered with a few cosmetic bits. Don't try to fool customer by portraying this car as a 4*4 dear Volkswagen India.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus in new variants to be launched in June 2023

So, is this trend of cosmetic 'editions' giving hints of VW India 3.0 strategy? Is this better than expanding Product Portfolio, or optimizing pricing for a change?
