Skoda could launch next-gen Superb in India this year

Skoda phased out the Superb after the BS6 Phase 2 emissions norms came into effect earlier this year. However, that doesn't mean that the flagship sedan has gone for good. According to a media report, the Superb will make a comeback in its new avatar this year itself.

The next-generation Superb is already in the works. Skoda recently released a teaser of the upcoming sedan, revealing its new LED headlight signature and C-shaped LED taillights. The car is likely to retain its overall look, albeit with minor changes around the front grille and rear fascia.

Reports also suggest that Skoda plans to assemble the Superb in India. That being said, there's still no clarity regarding its powertrain options. According to Petr Solc, Brand Director, Skoda India, the company could offer a strong-hybrid powertrain, but its main focus, for now, is the EV segment.

The Skoda Octavia was also discontinued following the rollout of the new emissions norms. While the Octavia is also expected to make a comeback, it will depend on how the market reacts to the new Superb. Similarly, the spicy Octavia vRS could also be offered as a limited edition.

These cars from VAG are the epitome of enthusiastic driving and always need a presence in our market for few non mass market led mindset of drivers and to keep alive the driving benchmarks in each segment.

Thank you Venkatesh. Timestamping for the Superb and Octavia question at the 4 minutes mark:

Interestingly, he makes no mention of the Octavia and only the Superb.

Me and a friend were discussing this when it was originally reported that they might axe the Octavia and Superb on a T-Bhp thread. My friends opinion was that the Octavia was incredibly overpriced and within striking distance from the Superb on the L&K variant, the Superb of course being significantly better than the Octavia across the board(as it would apply to most people), he felt the current gen Octavia because of its clearly poorer price to value proposition might not come back at all and Skoda will just sell the Superb as a result.
Sedans popularity slipping aside, the sales figures for the Octavia this gen simply proved his point. What he said made sense then and it does now, unless Skoda finds a way to reasonably price the facelifted Octavia, it is not going to make any sense relaunching it in our market, except to cater to the few hardcore enthusiasts.

On Superb and Octavia:

Quote:
The new generation that will be developed and used in Europe, we would like to bring it back and also bridge the period to bring certain supply to India on the Superb. So the first primary focus is to bring the Sedan of Superb, and we will see then if there is potential also to bring the adequate engine of Octavia. Right after that could be Octavia and bring a limited quantity of Octavia RS to India

Have been contemplating buying a Superb and this news is fantastic as there were a few bits I did not like and this new 2024 version could perhaps eradicate these niggles.

Why do they not , ever, mention about E20+ petrol compatibility??? Not Kodiaq, not Superb...?? Or did I miss something? Even the media doesn't seem to be asking.

Re: Skoda could launch next-gen Superb in India this year

There used to be a time when the average joe used to be able to afford some of the Mercs/BMWs e.g. an A class/B Class to start with, but with the current prices, the Superb is possibly the best bet at getting the best of everything at a price that won't absolutely break your bank!

10-12 year old Superbs are giving new cars a run for their money even today, that in itself speaks lengths about this car. Apart from the Slavia, the Skoda lineup at the moment has started to feel dated, this car will definitely contribute to brightening things up a bit!

Re: Skoda could launch next-gen Superb in India this year

I don't think the next-gen Superb will come to India this year, as its global unveil itself is scheduled for last in 2023. As we've seen before (Superb, Kodiaq), the low volumes of India don't make it a priority market for CKD kits. IMHO, 2024 is more realistic. ACI took the news down. Go figure.

Will be interesting to see what engines it comes with, as Skoda didn't want to spend all that money making the 2.0 TSI FWD compliant for BS6 RDE (it was easier to meet the new emission norms with the AWD version found in the Kodiaq & Tiguan). Hybrid?

Regardless, great to hear of the ultimate "value luxury sedan" making a comeback in India. We have a Superb L&K and are supremely happy with the car.

Re: Skoda could launch next-gen Superb in India this year

Without relying on hindsight, I was quite sure that the halt of Superb and Octavia was just that, only to be resumed with adaptations for BS6.2, whereas much had been mourned about their exit even in this forum

Almost a repeat of what they did during the BS6 roll out it would seem. We are also getting near contemporary cars of Europe in the process.

So, finally current generation Superb coming back with a 6.2 RDE compliant engine followed later by the Octavia (potentially), while the 2023 Superb will launch in early 2024.

Kudos to Skoda in keeping the D1/2 segment alive.

The Octavia and Superb we're always assembled in India. They were CKD and not CBU. Hence the relatively affordable price (except 4th gen Octy).
