The new Mahindra compact SUV has been spotted testing for the first time in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, near the new Mahindra test track. At this initial stage of testing, the prototype appears raw with dummy headlights and tail lights and it is completely camouflaged. Based on Mahindra’s use of such lights and the similarity in temporary number sequences for their test mules, it is likely that the vehicle belongs to Mahindra.

In terms of size, the prototype doesn’t appear as large as the Mahindra XUV300 or as small as a hatchback. This suggests that it will be positioned below the XUV300 as a compact SUV to compete with the Tata Punch and the upcoming Hyundai Exter.

Mod Note: Our Mahindra XUV 3XO Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

The roof, glasshouse, ORVMs, the hood's shut lines all look like the XUV300. It appears to be a facelift.

Hopefully, it will have new interiors, which was its biggest weakness.

Hope they are not building this on top of KUV100. It reminds me of that. This was the actual Punch, but it got reverse punched.

Likely to get the XUV100 moniker,

Small cars, small profits. I don't think Mahindra is interested in selling 6 - 7 lakh rupee cars anymore.

If you notice, their cheapest cars on sale today are the XUV300 & Bolero / Bolero Neo, costing 10 lakhs (base trim) and above for the good variants. Then of course, they have blockbuster 15 - 30 lakh rupee products like the Thar, Scorpio-N & XUV700. All of these are selling in good volumes. Big ticket prices & fat profit margins are like a drug. Once you are addicted to them, you aren't interested in selling cheaper products, thin profit margins, fighting day & night with Maruti / Hyundai / Tata and using up enormous management bandwidth. They have already burnt their fingers with the KUV100.

If it was not for the article claiming that it was smaller than the XUV300 in person, I would wager that this was an extensive facelift of the XUV300.

Also this future plan doesn't show anything below the the 'all new XUV300'.

If there is indeed a XUV100 to be launched, then bless the competition. Never thought that Mahindra would come back to the affordable segment given the failure of the KUV100 and the average sales of the XUV300 (relative to competition sales). Super excited to see how the end product would be, especially if it comes with the XUV300 petrol engine or the new 1.2l TGDI. Though it would be super lame if the old lump of the KUV100 is used again. (Then again, the competition isn't any better)

The only thing that needs to be carried over from the KUV100 is that sweet :loveit gearbox with its dashboard positioning and the American style wide front armrest from the 6 seater variant. So comfortable, wonder why no other manufacturer aped it.

We shouldn't forget the fact that Mahindra now has someone, who perhaps designed the Punch! Someone, who knows the strengths and weakness of that product more than anyone else on this forum. I foresee a strong mini SUV to shakeup Punch, C3, Exter and others like Magnite/Kiger/C3 Aircross.

I also feel that it has more probability of being an XUV300 refresh than being a Punch competitor, as the original was launched in 2019.

Seeing the images looks like the rear end has gone through a considerable change - Number plate has been shifted to bumper from tailgate, probably to make way for connected lamps ?

I might be wrong, but I can notice many design features similar to the XUV300.

The hood is the same. Note the curve on the hood, and the angled shut line between the hood and the grille, above the headlamp.

The angled A pillar, the front windshield is the same.

And the ORVM is the same.

I would buy the new XUV100 if its coming

Lessons learnt from the KUV100 especially the entire country shouting on top of their voices should have given enough insights.

Personally I liked the KUV100 NXT and its gearbox.

I feel KUV was too early and market wasnt ready for such a product as it was peak of Hatchback sales.

If at all XUV100 is coming, I would want it to come with a non turbo GDI engine. A first for Indian market. And of course the dashboard mounted gear shifter is must.

Offtopic.

I guess the Germans already had non turbo GDI petrol engines in India, also the last Hyundai Sonata sold here.

At present the cheapest non turbo GDI petrol car must be the non hybrid Hycross.

Dont think Germans sold non turbo GDI in India ... MPI they had and then TSI

Sonata was a premium segment vehicle.

Hycross too is a VVTI engine havent read that its a direct injection one.

Non turbo GDI in a mainstream crowded segment is not heard of in India.

There were FSI Audis before TFSI.

Agreed. GDI engines were offered only in premium segments, and when they did come to affordable segments, it was always coupled with a turbo.

The Hycross has D-4S, which is Toyota speak for a combination of port injection and direct injection, thereby solving the carbon buildup problems of GDI engines.

The round headlights.
I think they are just added as the real ones may not be built or to mislead the viewers.
BUT, me personally would love the car with such headlight.
would look very retro chick.

Something like the attached I have in mind...

ACI reports that this is an XUV300 facelift.

Expected by the end of this year.
