Re: My Jeep Compass gets T-Boned | Ordeal with Jeep Service

Glad that you escaped scot free from the accident. Same was my experience from another accident in god's own country itself. Mine was much more serious with repair amount of almost 8 lakhs. I know Jeep and it's ASC are not people favourite but my experience till date was quite the opposite. My repair was done impeccably by Hyson Jeep Kottayam with painting almost factory spec. My entire left side suspension was changed including wheel, brake and the entire steering column. To my surprise it felt the same as the first day after all the repairs were done.
Battery was replaced on my car as well. I think almost 99 percent Compass facelifts had their batteries replaced in the second year. For me, it was like they knew the issue before hand and swapped without any second thoughts. But the process is same as you had mentioned, charge for a night and so on.
Felt like sharing, just so that people should understand that there is still hope in jeep brand. Like you had mentioned it is one of the best cars to take on highway ride.

Re: My Jeep Compass gets T-Boned | Ordeal with Jeep Service

Gald to know you are safe and the vehicle is finally back fully fixed. These things are never easy to process. For us car lovers here in team-bhp, harm to our cars is like harm to a family member.
However, dont take it so seriously that it affects your well being and happiness too much or too long. The vehicle is after all, still an object of possession and you will own and enjoy many more cars. I know this is easy to say but in the early days in India, when I experienced damage to my car, I used to feel bad for weeks on end. But over time, you learn that the car can be made as good as new and you will buy new cars again so it is something to accept and move on.

Buddy, I'm just glad you're okay. Honestly in such times repair costs, parts prices, medical bills, fault finding, regrets, etc. don't matter. You're fine and that's all that matters. Thank the Almighty for saving you from worse outcomes. Stay safe.

However, a few individuals grasped the situation upon viewing the footage, and the driver shifted to a defensive stance. One bystander even acknowledged that the fault lay with the other party but advised me not to expect any monetary compensation from him.
With every accident one has to go through this nonsense. All of these morons are jobless enough to stop their activities and play judge when a random accident happens. There needs to be a good way to make it clear that nobody cares for their stupid opinions on who's to blame.

Sorry about you having to go through the whole ordeal, first the accident and then the pain with Jeep ASC. Sadly, such service experiences are the reason a brand like Jeep isn't popular in a country which loves SUVs.

I myself have contemplated going for a Compass many times but always step down after the stories of painful service and maintenance experiences from multiple owners comes up.

All that matters is that you came out of the situation unharmed. The road looks super congested with lot of blind spots. Kudos to you for posting the dashcam video knowing fully well that people will judge.

Having a dashcam saved you from unwanted scuffle. It is high time that companies start providing dashcam as a standard fitment in cars rather that being an after market addition.

Re: My Jeep Compass gets T-Boned | Ordeal with Jeep Service

While sympathising with you, would like to reiterate that we need to always slow down at any road intersection of any kind, else anything may unexpectedly pop up from anywhere, to our unpleasant surprise.

Lawfully, there's a "Rules of the Road Regulations, 1989" appended as APPENDIX IV in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules,1989, wherein road usage guidelines are enumerated.

Herein, the Rule no.9 states:-

" 9. Giving way to traffic at road junction

The driver of a motor vehicle shall, on entering a road intersection, at which traffic is not being regulated, if the road entered is a main road designated as such, give way to vehicles proceeding along that road, and in any other case give way to all traffic approaching the intersection on his right hand."

Going by the above rule, the mini LCV was at fault as it needed to have slowed down while at the main road intersection.

That driver has also erred by not giving way to traffic approaching the intersection on his right hand.

This is precisely the learning you had out of this experience and most of us realise this one day or the other. I too had a missed road barrier that I edged my Creta last week, the kind you find everywhere on TN highways. I felt similar feelings you penned here and soon had another long drive to get out of it All the best with yours.

Re: My Jeep Compass gets T-Boned | Ordeal with Jeep Service

The increasing ordeals with Jeep Service, dwindling sales and service network, and minuscule sales numbers have left us confused, about whether or not we should rethink our decision for going for a Jeep Compass.

To add to that, the only showroom in our district caught fire and the claim for the same has not been accepted by Insurance citing inappropriate action taken for mitigating the same and involvement in the same. All this makes me feel whether or not, dealers are trying to give up on their dealerships owing to poor sales.

The Jeep dealership in my district has only one salesperson, who is an all-in-one, sales executive, manager, and delivery personnel. They do have a service center in the remains of the burnt-down showroom though. The high stock of unsold inventory, a high number of cancellations after booking, etc, have left the dealer here with too much inventory, even as old as that from 2022 lying in their stockyard, which they are somehow trying to get rid of with massive discounts (a lakh more than the official schemes, and for 2022 models, up to 3-4 lakhs, for the Compass and even more for the Meridian).

All this makes me wonder, whether going for a Jeep is worth the risk (even though I get it a great discount). If somehow, the service center also shuts shop, I would have to travel over 100 km to get service done.

The attitude of the service personnel, unduly long delays for service, and so on reported by my friends who own a Compass/Meridian also make me feel that your ordeal is not the only case, and I should be careful in my purchase.

I don't know if I am wrong in getting to these conclusions, or if I should let these issues slide and get the car (because the car is definitely great and I loved it after the test drive)

Mods, I don't know if this is the right place to post this but since this deals with an accident and an ordeal with the service I posted it here if there is any appropriate thread where this should have been posted, Kindly move it there.

Thanks.

Re: My Jeep Compass gets T-Boned | Ordeal with Jeep Service

Sorry to hear about the accident, I can understand the feeling seeing your car in the service center for almost a month

My recent first-free service experience with Landmark Jeep Noida was also not top-notch, the Service Advisor kept on "selling" unnecessary products and services, despite my firm warning to only stick to the mandatory service list by Mopar.

I am just a 6-month old Compass owner, but the dwindling Jeep network in the country isn't giving me too much confidence. Let's hope it improves from hereon.

Not sure if the original dashcam video has audio in it; the youtube is muted.

If you can record audio too you can prove you honked enough before entering a blind spot. It may help a bit to convince the cops or the other party.

Re: My Jeep Compass gets T-Boned | Ordeal with Jeep Service

As others have pointed out, OP you definitely weren't practicing Defensive Driving.

Technically and legally the lcv is at fault, absolutely no doubt about it but in India, right of way, merging etc all have no sanctity. If anything if have 20 years of driving experience, you should know that in such chaotic medianless / no signalled roads, vehicles will approach without check.

I personally would have driven very slowly on such a road, used the horn generously while approaching the intersection. You simply were going too fast for this road type.

Re: My Jeep Compass gets T-Boned | Ordeal with Jeep Service

My observation from the footage is that you were driving in an average speed and in the right lane. Dashcams do make things look faster.
Now coming to the fault part technically its the van driver's fault who was getting on the main road. However if you add 20 years of experience driving in India then you should have known by now how fortunate we are in terms of having basic road sense. Expecting it from majority of drivers is like looking for an unicorn. Plenty of horn (even if it is offensive and rude) and slowing at intersection is what could have been the solution.

Coming to repairs, it was sad to see that Jeep is not doing enough to expedite parts procurement during such cases. I hear its the same with Volkswagen and Skoda as well. Being a premium brand/model these really matters and should be better than Maruti, TATA and Hyundai. But its quite the opposite.

Auto start stop issue was something I never heard before. Hope they fix it in future.

Overall Jeep is a stunning car with great driving dynamics. Its good to see your car is all fixed and back to normal. Hope you can forget some of the agony and enjoy many more miles with your car.

I had shared my experience regarding the Jeep service following an accident in this post https://www.team-bhp.com/news/my-com...e-jeep-service. Unfortunately, the experience was subpar then, due to extensive delays and issues with the service quality.

Following my post on Team BHP, I received a call from Pinnacle Jeep in Kochi. They expressed interest in addressing my concerns and requested a meeting with their General Manager. They were ready to schedule the meeting according to my preferences of date and location. Given the proximity of my workplace to their service center, I agreed to meet there. I had a hunch that this was a response to my Team BHP review.

At the designated time and date, I met with their GM. He began by acknowledging that he had read my post on Team-BHP. He conveyed that both their Managing Director and the brand itself were concerned by the negative customer experience I had highlighted. He took full responsibility for the problems I had encountered and extended a sincere apology. I recognized that this was a fair step, knowing that some of the issues were beyond Pinnacle's control, such as delays in invoicing and parts shipment, which were shortcomings on Jeep's end. Even the battery problem I had mentioned stemmed from an engineering oversight – a failure to upgrade the battery in line with the vehicle's enhanced features.

During our discussion, I raised my concerns, and he shared the challenges they had faced internally due to staffing shortages and changes in key personnel. He assured me that he had personally taken charge after receiving such feedback and was confident in their ability to enhance service quality and customer satisfaction. He mentioned they are keenly following articles on Team BHP, including those discussing the Path Ahead of Jeep in India https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...ath-ahead.html (Jeep in India | The Path Ahead), and found them highly relevant. He hinted at compensating me for the inconvenience I had endured, although I hesitated to accept, as I believed this could potentially compromise my ability to offer constructive criticism in the future.

We causally engaged in conversations about future launches, with no ground-breaking surprises. He mentioned about petrol variant re-launch within a year, as well as plans for a 4xe lineup in 2025/26. They too were heavily impacted due to pull back of petrol as it accounted for more than 45% sales and the % kept growing. He shared optimism about Jeep's new management taking the product roadmap seriously, a sentiment that resonates with many of us who hope such brands continue to thrive in India.

Overall, the gesture was positive, and I'm optimistic that they will follow through on their commitment to an improved customer experience.

I left with a positive impression, bolstered by some enjoyable drives I've had in my car after the service ordeal.
Long highway rides like the one below, where I've had the chance to maintain triple-digit speeds for extended stretches, bring immense joy to every Compass owner.

However, one issue remains unresolved. The sunroof occasionally develops a rattling sound, especially in hot weather conditions and when navigating ramps shortly after starting. I brought up this concern during my visit to their service center to meet the GM. Unfortunately, as is often the case, the issue didn't occur when I brought the car in and when they took the test drive. Nonetheless, the service team attributed it to the hardening of rubber beadings due to weather conditions and applied lubrication. The rattling hasn’t gone completely ( and comes back occasionally ).
