HSRP plates are mandatory in Karnataka from November of 2023 as per an order issued dated 17th August 2023.

The order being circulated widely is attached. Just 3 months' time for most vehicles to adopt HSRP seems ridiculous.

A lot of unanswered questions, and ambiguity:
1. Who does it and where to get it done?
2. As a user, what are the steps to ensure it's authentic?
3. What about vehicles where the manufacturer ceases to exist?
4. What about classic vehicles where there is no provision for number plates? Old Bajaj scooters had numbers painted on the chassis for the front.
5. For any modifications to accommodate a number plate on classic vehicles, non-existent manufacturer, who decides what modification is acceptable(From the perspective of not being able to tamper?

Though no remedy lies for 15-49 year old vehicles (Rule 50 Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989) the notification if implemented for vintage vehicles can be challenged in a court of law, as it contravenes the Union Transport Ministry's notification vide GSR 492(E) dated 15.07.2021 for vintage vehicles.

Quote:

Rule 81 (B) (4) All such vintage vehicles shall be exempted from the provisions of High Security Registration Plates as mandated under Rule 50.

Yes this was in yesterdays TOI

Just when I was planning to ditch the HSRP on my cars and replace them with something that looks better. The HSRPs on two of my cars have already started to fade out within 1 and 3 years of use. The replacement process is pretty tedious and not straight forward. Hence I was thinking of keeping the original HSRP in the cupboard for future use and getting something else similar to the current HSRP font but in gel form. Looks like that plan has to be now kept in the cupboard and order HSRP for the other car. :Frustrati

Target vehicles: Nearly 2 crore vehicles manufactured before 2019.
Timeline: 3 months
Enough said :Frustrati

Is there no one to question this madness in a court of law?

This was earlier slated to be a 3 year implementation which now seems to have been accelerated to 3 months. The portal is yet to be fully enabled and many questions to be addressed like the ones you pointed out. I have been following with curiosity given I have a Ford which does not seem to have operations and no dealers or third party fitment agents listed for Karnataka. However, in other states there are quite a few options and I am hoping the same will happen for Karnataka too.

You are right. I am quite certain the deadline will extend a couple of times.

Are there any extra fitment charges to be levied, or the online payment (while booking) covers them all?

This is very much needed considering the amount of counterfeiting of number plates happening in Bengaluru. I have seen lot of users challenging the violation in Twitter that the vehicle involved in the violation is not theirs. This will definitely help in reducing the vehicle related crimes. Government should set up a complaint channel (may be a telephone number) to keep the prices in check. Otherwise you know what will happen because of the demand. Also, I think the deadline is an awareness to speed up the installation of number plates and hopefully it will get extended.

I got new KA number allocated for my Grand Vitara after FC. Yet to collect the RC card from RTO. Wondering where to procure the HSRP in Bengaluru. Any leads are much appreciated.

This exercise reminds me of conversion of number plate color. Before it used to be white lettering on black plate. They changed it to black lettering on white and started fining owners left and right. There was frenzy of getting numbers hand painted on blank white plates in mysore then.

This one doesn't seem to show any option for 2 wheelers, especially for Royal Enfield.

I am able to see it though. This is what I could see just now.

Just placed an order through makemyhsrp for our Audi Q3 2016 reg. Audi Bengaluru tried but could not saying their system allows ordering only for 1 April 2019 onwards. Affixing slated for next week at the Vittal Mallya Road showroom.

Cost me 756 bucks which is supposed to be inclusive of fitting and includes the windshield sticker as well.

Looks like the website is broke. After entering the details, when I select the manufacturer, a duplicate tab opens with the same information listing the manufacturers
