Re: The one car you will realistically buy, if it changed 2 - 3 things about itself

Velar or Jeep GC facelift if they could give a 6 pot.
Up next is LC 250 ‘Prado’ even in its 2.4L 4 cylinder + those motors making a decently good combined power. Same goes for Lexus Rx500h.

Oh and these are not ‘dream cars’ for me, fortunately
I like to call them ‘dream cars within reach’.
Whats bit out of reach is RR Sport, Macan/Cayenne GTS, LC300

Since this has to be a realistic and "affordable" buy, I would buy the Honda City almost instantly if it came with the 1.5L turbo motor + better NVH + fatter tyres.

Cosmetically, I would like to have a wider color options in many cars. Cars like the Wagon-R are practically very good and VFM but don't get attractive color options.

I really like the Bolero Neo. I wish it had the petrol engine and automatic transmission options. Would have seriously considered it then.

An i20 N-Line with the 1.5 TGDi. It's a hoot to drive with the 1 liter in its power band, it'd be a hoot and a half with the 1.5.

Replacing the tight and chuckable Tiago JTP, the C-segment sedan options have great 1.5 liter turbo petrol motors but none feel tight when pushed, and I'm not a fan of large floaty cars.

Kia Seltos 1.5L turbo petrol - if only the improved the body structural strength to at least Tata/German standards and improve their GNCAP safety ratings to 5 stars

My current road-tripping ride is a 2010 Fortuner. Done about 163xxx kms and still manages to keep the drive engaging.

I need a good payload as I travel with my wife, 2 dogs, a kid and I cannot pack light.

Most trips are this way. A Proper 4X4 is a must.

The current generation is tempting but the additional price v/s benefits isn't convincing enough. I just pamper the current Fortuner both mechanically and cosmetically. In return it still manages to make every trip an absolute pleasure.

Updated features that keeps it relevant and stops me from buying the current generation Fortuner (I'll keep it concise keeping in the spirit of the thread)
  1. Clutch + everything related
  2. Common rail pump
  3. Scandinavian leather seats
  4. Gen 2 black carpets
  5. Respray
  6. Philips Xtreme Utilnon + PIAA LED headlamps
  7. OME suspension
  8. Pioneer Wireless Apple Car Play with a 7" screen
  9. Tyres
Features I miss the most in my Fortuner
  1. 7 airbags
  2. Panoramic sunroof
  3. Better brakes
  4. A softer ride
Features I would have loved to have in the new Fortuner
  1. Panoramic sunroof
  2. Improved interiors
  3. Plaint ride

I'm fairly certain the new gen is around the corner on the TNGA-F chasis. I would have loved the F33A-FTV V6 Diesel but I have accepted that we will most likely get the GD with the 48V mild hybrid. I'm really hoping that the design and feature list is inspired by the LC250.

For me its the VAG twins Slavia and Virtus . If VAG can mate the 1.5 TSI engine with a TC transmission , I will spend north of 20 lacs for the car . Hands down !

I'd be pretty happy if Mahindra launched the XUV300 in an AWD variant as it comes in the Tivoli. As many said before, a Fortuner 4x4 with a suspension and lighting upgrade would be the perfect go-anywhere vehicle.

Re: The one car you will realistically buy, if it changed 2 - 3 things about itself

I am looking for a car to replace our Honda City in the next 1 year. The car will mostly be used by my parents for short runs within the city. The car is expected to run ~5k kms/year and will be kept for at least 10 years.

My realistic purchase 1:
- Kia Sonet

Why would I want it to change:
- Offer a proper automatic (IVT) in the 1.2 NA guise.
- Offer 4-6 airbags in the 1.2 NA guise.

My realistic purchase 2:
- Honda Amaze

Why would I want it to change:
- Upgrade the ICE system and the MID to be more responsive and modern.
- Offer 4-6 airbags.
- Rear AC vents.

Re: The one car you will realistically buy, if it changed 2 - 3 things about itself

Great thread!

I went car shopping off late and here are my inputs.

1. Tata Altroz / Punch with a powerful engine and better in-car entertainment. Even iTurbo is just about adequate for the weight of that car. Nexon state of tune would have been ideal. Best part is Tata have them inhouse and it's a matter of bringing it down. It is easier now as Nexon has become lot more expensive.

2. Grand Vitara with a powerful engine. 1.4 turbo with smart hybrid would have bought best of both worlds. Same for Baleno. Fronx is a powerful Baleno but its unreasonably priced for what it offers.

3. A pick from past is Swift with 90hp tune.

4. VW twins with premium interiors. When you look at 1.5TSI at 23odd Lakhs, it's hard to justify the plastic quality.

5. Automatic variant distribution on almost all cars. Budget has to be stretched to brim to afford automatics.

6. Seltos with better safety or Creta with non offensive looks.*

There are many others on top of my mind like Civic with diesel, Verna diesel with better suspension and all but they are gone case!

Re: The one car you will realistically buy, if it changed 2 - 3 things about itself

I just bought the Hilux At replacing the Isuzu V-cross Mt.

I might have bought the Isuzu V-Cross if it had the 3.0 engine.

I might have bought the Safari if it had proper 4x4 and no third row.

Forgot to mention two more.

The TATA Punch if it came with the 1.5l diesel, even the Altroz tune would be fine. The car sans the mediocre engine is such a good one for our roads.

The Isuzu S-Cab Z, if it came with the original 135bhp tune than the Taveraish 77bhp. Yes, aftermarket can fix it, but am not the brave one to tinker within warranty period.

They didn't offer the V6 F33A in the Prado/LC250, let alone the Fortuner or Hilux. Seems like the engine will face the same fate as the ertswhile V8 VD engine. Or maybe they may offer it in some midlife facelift, but bet by that time Fortuner will cross 1 crore.

Re: The one car you will realistically buy, if it changed 2 - 3 things about itself

Two cars, which might be part of my garage next year. The reason I am waiting and why I am not buying the right now:

# Punch: Lack of a DCA. Though my Tigor's AMT isn't problematic, I would never buy an AMT again. An extra 50k-1 lakh for a torque converter/ dual clutch is worth it.

# C3 AirCross: I am fine with what it offers. I am in the mood for the five seater. I am waiting for the BNCAP rating, Automatic transmission and six airbags.

Re: The one car you will realistically buy, if it changed 2 - 3 things about itself

I am on the lookout for a tourer with 4x4 or AWD. Hence considering following options
1. Grand Vitara AWD
Wish list - powerful engine, AT
2.Thar 5 door
Wish list - better ride comfort, features and a 60/40 split rear seat, no niggles, inconsistent QC and ASS
If neither work out then,
3. Scorpio N
Wish list - no niggles and efficient ASS

No mods, I keep my cars stock ( except tyres)

Re: The one car you will realistically buy, if it changed 2 - 3 things about itself

There are three actually!
  1. Hector : If they introduce diesel automatic and provide Better handling and highway mannerisms. XUV scored high on above two points for me hence I purchased that instead of Hector else I liked the car.
  2. Fortuner : If they price it sensibly. No offence to current owners but no matter how reliable the car is the price at which it is sold OTR can be corrected.
  3. Creta : If they improvise on the build quality and safety. I firmly believe Creta is the perfect package in 10-20 lac segment barring the safety and build quality aspect. I would have purchased it for my spouse had safety ratings been better.

Cheers!
