Skoda India to make broader premium push with Superb and Octavia, diesels may return.

Alongside laying out the plan for its new compact SUV slated for launch in March 2025, Skoda India has also reworked its premium car strategy. The firm will now make for a wider role for the Skoda Superb and Skoda Octavia, making for a two-pronged line-up.


- New-gen Skoda Superb launch pushed to mid 2025.

- The Superb, as before, will continue to be sold as a CKD, rolling out of Skoda Volkswagen's Aurangabad facility. The major powertrain choice will be the 2.0-litre TSI with 201PS and 330 Nm.

-Skoda India is also studying a comeback for its 2.0-litre TDI motor with the new Superb. Although, this will be in limited numbers as a CBU.

-The company could also take this further and add this engine option to the new-gen Skoda Kodiaq that will eventually also launch in India.

-Skoda India now seems to be more open to bringing back the Octavia

- One of the options being discussed, on the backdrop of the less-than-expected enthusiasm towards EVs from buyers generally, is to bring back the recently refreshed Skoda Octavia as a hybrid.

-This could be a plug-in hybrid with a 150PS 1.5-litre engine paired with a 25.7 kWh battery pack. This should make for a combined 204PS and be good for 100 km of electric-only range.

-The company is also open to bringing back the Skoda Octavia RS. But this will be in limited numbers as a CBU while the standard Octavia could be a CKD.

Do they have the Octavia Hybrid in other markets? That would be a phenomenal option if priced right. The icing would be more rational taxes from the govt. for PHEVs.

Only concern is the DSG. Hope there will be no issues with heating as the electric motor will be working at stop and go traffic.

This is BIG news! Never really thought that Skoda will bring back the diesels. Gives me a glimmer of hope that the Diesels aren't dead yet.

Aah, tell me about it! All this hype around the EV's is slowly subsiding , thankfully.

I won't be surprised if the other cars manufacture re-work their EV plans soon , just like Merc and now Skoda.

Restyled Skoda Octavia (2024) prices in France:

And the French division of the Czech brand today unveils its base price, set at €29,880 for the 116-horsepower TSI petrol version with the six-speed manual gearbox in "Selection" trim.

Skoda France specifies that four engines will be available at launch, with also a micro-hybrid TSI offering 116 or 150 horsepower and in both cases an automatic dual-clutch gearbox, but also a 150-horsepower diesel TDI with dual-clutch transmission. The price table shows that the car will offer a choice between the "Selection" and "Sportline" trims and that the estate version will cost between €940 and €1,260 more.

New Skoda Octavia under evaluation for local assembly in India.

Not just the regular Octavia, but the sportier RS version is also understood to be on the cards.

“We are exploring the Octavia for India because this car must come back. This could exactly be up to Rs 30 lakh, where we currently have no offering,” said Janeba.

Currently, Skoda assembles the Kodiaq here, whose next-gen model is due for entry in the second quarter of 2025. Introducing the new Octavia will only be possible after that, as it typically takes 12-18 months to prepare a car for parts and components assembly. One also has to factor in various emissions and regulatory norms and extensive testing to meet those parameters.
