Unable to update my car as BS4 in Vahan database, dealer not helping

Hi Folks,

I am facing an issue with updating fuel norm in vahan database for my Verna 1.6 CRDi manufactured in Oct 2015 and purchased in Jan 2016. My car is BS4 but vahan database does not have any details mentioned about fuel norms. Due to this i am getting PUC of just 6 months instead of 1 year for BS4.
I reached out to RTO and all they are asking is document from Dealer/Hyundai where its mentioned as this vehicle is BS4. Here comes the bummer now, neither my cars invoice mentions that car is BS4 nor my dealer is helping out with any document which mention car as BS4. All they giving same invoice copy which i already have which doesn't mention fuel norm.
From my sources i came to know that there is a form 22A which provided by manufacturer to dealer that requires at the time of registration which has the fuel norms mentioned. But in my case dealer dont have any copy of this form 22 as this was submitted in original to RTO by dealer's agent for registration.
It's been 6 months i am chasing dealer but they are of no help. Can you please suggest what can be done to get details updated in Vahan database?
@Mods, please merge my post in appropriate thread. Thank you.

In this case, you have to file a complaint with the consumer forum I believe. Seems like a case of dealership negligence, as they should archive a (digital) copy of that document regardless of submission to RTO or some proof/receipt of submission.

I too am in a similar boat, My 2006 Swift is mentioned as Bharat Stage II in the Vahan website where in reality it is Bharat Stage III. Swift was launched in the Bharat Stage III avatar from day 1 of Launch. The same is for my Mom's Activa September 2005 as well. Although my PUC validity duration still remains 6 months, I hope to correct this error in their Database.

Add me to the boat. My 2011 Chevy Beat is mentioned as Bharat Stage III in the Vahan database while in reality it is Bharat Stage IV. My PUC validity remains only 3 months in NCR and I have to keep close watch on due date to avoid any challans. Not sure how to get it corrected, moreso as the company has left India for good.

I couldn't catch this earlier as it was never mentioned on either of the RCs (vehicle was transferred from one state to another). It started popping only in last few years during PUC checks.

I plan on to send an Email to MSIL and HMSI asking for a statement declaring my vehicle is Bharat Stage III and use that as a proof in the RTO for correction. I have also seen few RC's that mention the Bharat Stage right after the Model name. Eg- Model: Grand I10 BS4
Will share updates if I'm able to make the changes

Also you can try getting same on dealership letterhead. In my case dealership is at fault as i have seen other dealership mentioning fuel norms on Invoice. But in my case they missed. Also they have messed with car model name in vahan database. Mine is Verna 1.6 CRDi S(O), instead it shows Verna 1.6 GL.

Re: Unable to update my car as BS4 in Vahan database, dealer not helping

Folks,

I had faced the same issue with my car which is BS4 but was appearing as BS3 in database.
To everyone facing this issue, approach the OEM directly and get confirmation from them regarding the BS standard of your car. I got the Form 22 from FIAT stating that my car is BS4 compliant and intimated the RTO through my RTO agent to update in their records and it worked.
I am sure proactive companies like Maruti and Hyundai will definitely help you out. Cheers!

BS4 vehicles are getting PUC for only 6 months now. Petrol/Diesel both. Till about a year and half ago, it was 1 year, but soon after BS6.2 came in, only BS6 vehicles are getting emission certs for 1 year.

I will evaluate effort vs benefit here.

If the purpose is just to get 12 M PUC in place of 6 M, I would rather do nothing.

I am not so sure about this because I got the PUC Certificate for my BS IV Creta on 1/1/2024 and it says valid till 31/12/2024. This is in Kerala. Does PUC Certificate validity depend on the issuing state or is it uniform across the country.

To add, I too have a similar problem with my Activa 125. I think it's BS IV compliant but it doesn't say so in the RC. In Vaahan portal however, it is showing as BS III it seems.

You can send an RTI application to RTO seeking copy of this document, if it was actually submitted in original. Consult some RTI consultant if RTO tries to dodge this, which is usually done simply to avoid unnecessary work. If you request for inspection of records in your RTI application, it will be allowed and then you can take a copy of the relevant paper.

Please approach the Regional Office of the OEM, with your RC, Insurance and invoice. They can check in their portal or in some cases get the same checked from factory. Post which they issue an undertaking on their letterhead stating the correct emission norms.

Its uniform across country. In MH also we are getting 1 year validity for BS4 vehicles.

True. But here i am not fighting with OEM just for PUC validity but to update the correct details in Vahan database. Tomorrow if i have to sell car, i have no document to justify that my car is BS4. During sell of car resale value might also hit that's why all this hustle.

Re: Unable to update my car as BS4 in Vahan database, dealer not helping

Hi All,

After dropping an email directly to Hyundai(should have done already) and within 24Hrs i received call from Hyundai customer service. They specifically asked if this is complaint or query and i confirmed that its complaint since i am chasing dealer for more than a Year.
Things have started really fast after this call and received complaint number along with their zonal incharge number via SMS.

Within an hour i received call from dealers customers relationship manager. I explained her the issue and what i am expecting from them is simple documentation on their letterhead confirming emission norms. Initially she didn't budge and told me that if your PUC says its BS3 then your car is BS3 only. I asked her give me that in writing so that i can take that to court. Then dealership arranged a conference call with Hyundai Zonal officer explained him the same and my expectations. He then corrected the lady from dealership that don't use word BS3 since hyundai is manufacturing BS4 cars only from 2012 and my car is purchased in Dec 2015 is no doubt it's BS4.
He asked dealership to confirm the same on dealership letterhead and confirmed that within a week he will provide the same confirmation from Hyundai. Within next 24 hours i received the letter from Hyundai as well and dealership finally provided the docs to the agent to start the process of RC correction with RTO. Hushhhh.
I will update the thread once details updated in Vahan database. Thank you all for inputs and suggestions here.
