Sedans all the way! Like almost all of the cars in my garage have been.

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

Even though sedans are on the verge of extinction in the indian market, I would still pick the sedan as my favourite bodystyle. The low slung nature appeals to the mind of the enthusiast in terms of ride and handling. They also have the space to seat all passengers comfortably as well as the boot space for long hauls. Not to mention, todays sedans are feature packed barring a few models which ultimately make a very tempting proposition.

Although I cannot vote yet, but my choices are SUV and SUV Coupe.

Always love the commanding position, high seating.

Here is my love:

Sedans any day, because of elegance, practicality and price.

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

I think all these categories are purpose specific, and there's no one answer. In fact, the same person's brain and heart will select different options.

For instance, I selected sportback, but that's only if parking and roads were not an issue. But they are, right? A sedan is where practicality meets the heart then, I'd love a sedan as a second choice.
For city drives, I'd like a hatchback.
But as a biker, I'd consider a pickup truck, much like the recent Isuzu's.
Considering a full family, I'd love a SUV/ MUV/MPV.

But in real life, I actually drive (rarely) a Tata Nano that my dad chose for himself, as I'm more of a biker.

Voted for Sedan and sportback (with the latter standing in for the non existent estate option). I will never prefer a swoopy sportback if there was ever an estate, nor do I prefer the high sided style of SUVs (not my use case)

However the offerings in the market for upgrades may swing the opinion due to paucity of choices.

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

Sedans have the highest vote share, and rightly so. This dying body style definitely seems to pull more heartstrings than wallet share and needs revival. Thankful to the new competition at the entry level, there is some hope.

I am unsure if it is the comfort/stability of the sedan, or simply nostalgia at its play, I would never be able to choose another body style how much ever bad the roads become. I grew up falling in love with cars like Mitsubishi Lancer and Ford Ikon. The sight of a Škoda Octavia still tingles my heart - a feeling I would never be able to explain to my loved one without offending them.

I prefer an SUV

Though my first car is a hatch back as time passes, I started liking SUV due to better handling of our roads with the ground clearance, upright seating posture and better road view, comfort during long drives and off roading capabilities.

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

If its an only car garage in India, and considering the roads in and around Bangalore, I'll go with a SUV.

The 2024 Land Cruiser Prado is SWEEEEETTTTTTTT.

OT: If I win a lottery or default on a multi-crore loan, I'll get a Ferrari F40 and a MV Agusta F4 1000 to park in the living room and ogle at everyday

I guess this poll reflects what we all know. The car-buff prefers sedans. But the general public cant get enough (pseudo) SUVs.

Spot on! In the same vein can anyone shed further light on the better riding of a sedan. Is there a parametric comparison available on this?

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

From an emotional perspective, sedans all the way. There is simply something I cannot explain that makes it feel like they have a soul. Plus, there are now extremely competent options in the segment, thanks to the efforts of VAG, Hyundai and Honda

There are *some* logical pluses too: for example, they're safer for pedestrians than crossovers, both in terms of visibility and risk of serious injury.

Crossovers do make sense from the head and are generally looked on as aspirational, and although personally I rarely like crossovers more than their equivalent sedans, I can completely see why someone would pick them for the added practicality and comfort on bad roads. They are just not something I see myself getting for myself in the long-term when I can think about it.

What I have become really apprehensive about this year is MPVs. Call me biased for making premature conclusions but my parents got a Toyota Innova Hycross recently and I had a harrowing experience driving it. The car is so long that even with arguably well-adjusted mirrors, two-wheelers end up in your blind spot. It is also very cumbersome to park and considering the boot capacity with the third row up it practically does not offer more seating capacity than a two-row as one seat is always folded down (this unit has captain seats). And its rear suspension like most MPVs I've written (Vellfire aside) is downright average: a lot of bumps filter through and it triggers my motion sickness.

For comparison our 2018 Octavia is super-comfortable (rear McPhersons), seats just as many people, has a larger usable boot, and is nicer to drive, all for a good amount less (neglecting inflation). So excuse me if it is naïve to think that the difference is better spent on fuel and DSG trouble.

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

Voted just Sedans. Good to drive, generally very comfortable ride, can usually seat 4 in comfort, and can carry their luggage!

MPVs can seat more, but usually don't have space for all their luggage.

I like big SUVs (not the compact ones!). Not something I need at this point in my life, but I like them Kodiaqs, GLEs, Land Cruisers, and Q7s. And my personal opinion is that SUVs must have atleast AWD.

I like large hatchbacks, such as the VW Golf, but alas they're not sold in India. I did love the first gen Jazz, VW Polo, and the Skoda Fabia. I don't like any hatchbacks that are currently sold in India. Mercedes A -Class, besides being way more expensive than what I'm willing to spend on a hatchback, isn't really my kind of car.

I love coupès but really dislike SUV coupè.

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

Since childhood I have associated the term CAR with a vehicle having long hood, 4 doors and a trunk anything bigger would call it a jeep. Although I can't vote I would vote for a Sedan all the way.

Re: 2024 Edition: Which is your preferred car body style and why?

With out a fraction of doubt, SEDANS ALL THE WAY. Personal view, but a real car is a sedan. The elegance, sportiness cannot be beaten by other body styles. And another reason for choosing sedan is the low seating position and the fun to drive and handling. I find them more versatile too, eg: Octavia. A 3 series, no matter of which vintage, really make my knees go weak - don’t feel the same when I see a BMW much more expensive crossovers. So it’s sedan and my primary car will always be a sedan- PERIOD.

Well the body style that I hate the most is MUVs.

PS - I love sports back too.
