Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8 Select variant launched at Rs 16.99 lakh

For someone who sold his Z6 D AT for a Z8 D AT 4x4, the Z8S would have hit it out of the park day 1.

1. Tremendous VFM.
2. Practically no need for Karol Bagh work.
3. Safety! Cannot stress this enough.
4. 17 inch alloys which I really liked.
5. Auto headlights are nice but there are relays for this. And auto wipers are poorly tuned.
6. Probably, drive modes from the Z6 will return and thus better FE in the city.
7. A diesel car is short lived. I am in Noida. I already have a diesel Thar. The less money I spend on vehicles the more I have for a house.

----
Not to forget, the Z8S D AT is extremely potent at 19L given today's prices.

Now M&M get your second row sliding seat and B grab pillars done already. When you're done advertising the SN on every billboard between Delhi and Dehradun.

From what I understand from my SA, Z8 Select gets manual AC(not a confirmed news). No automatic climate control. We are aware that dual zone climate control is removed in select, one ends up thinking single zone climate control will be available but no, it just gets manual AC.

This is indeed a downer. The manual AC on M&M SUVs don't work well. On my 2020 Thar, even at the lowest setting the manual AC blows too much air and it's not comfortable, except on the hottest of days. It would have been a whole lot better if M&M had provided at least single zone auto-AC on the Z8S. Notwithstanding, it is still a very high value variant and the one I would recommend for people on a 20-25 lakh budget.

The icing on the cake would be, if they provided 4WD on the Z8S at the premium of say, 2 lakhs. A Z8S 4WD at about 20.99 would make a killer proposition and would become the most desirable VFM true blue SUV out there.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8 Select variant launched at Rs 16.99 lakh

Absolutely right. The manual AC on the Z6 was as terrible as the AC on my Thar. The fans are a mess!

Come the Z8, I have 8 speeds instead of 4, and the AC knows when to face the 'face' and when to move to the feet. Peace.

Yet, significantly inferior to my 2010 swift. The heater is very unpredictable esp when using dual mode. The lack of a second air speed for each zone is really unfortunate that handicaps the solution they have in place.

Just this morning at 8°C we drove to Mohan (Rajaji national park, near DDN.) As usual, the wife was at 28°C and I was at 22°C (since I barely feel cold). The AC blower has to accommodate both. So even though I moved my temperature to 18°C, the blower was the same speed, and the air was just as cold.

P.S. 'BIG DADDY' needs heated ORVMs please! It's high time.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8 Select variant launched at Rs 16.99 lakh

Was watching a intro video about the Z8s and noticed that the AC controls are similar to what the Z8.
Does this mean M&M is finally ready to provide a basic single zone climate control?
Sorry for the low quality screengrabs.

The Z8s has no markings on the rotary dial, similar to the Z8 or Z8L.

While the Z6 clearly has markings on the rotary dial, reminiscent of the Manual AC.

On the official YouTube channel of Mahindra Scorpio N, the video of Z8S introduction shows manual AC at 0.40 sec mark

The picture or model, used in the video, is the Z8L one as we can see the Sony center speaker on dashboard. AFAIK, Mahindra doesn't have single-zone auto climate control except for Scorpio S11. All their other cars have either manual AC or dual-zone climate control setup.

I too noticed this dial and silver finish door handles in the video and for a moment I thought Select will get these only to realize a few seconds later that the model shown is different.

There is Sony center speaker on the dash and also after a few seconds later in the video(when the zoom out happens to the exteriors) the AC knob is different with 1234 markings. So the model in video is not a Z8Select, atleast for the interiors part.

On the exterior, it looks like a Z8 Select. There is no chrome on door handles but there are drls and fog lights. So we can assume it will get chrome window line as shown in the video.

Nothing can be said about the interiors. It displays leatherette while showing the dash but not sure if they'll give leatherette on dashboard. Silver finish door handles and piano finish on center console may also be missing.

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8 Select variant launched at Rs 16.99 lakh

A youtuber uploaded a video of Scorpio N Select.

Apart from what is already known from the brochure, here are some observations. Biggest miss is the Automatic Climate Control.

What it gets from Z8
-Chrome window line on outside
-Leatherette on dash and door panels
-Silver finish on inside door handles/opening levers
-Piano black finished power window switches/panel

Missed from Z8
-No Automatic Climate Control, it gets a manual AC like Z6
-Only single remote key, second key is without remote
-No chrome on outside door handles

Re: Mahindra Scorpio-N Z8 Select variant launched at Rs 16.99 lakh

Is it worth spending 1.64L inr (On ex-showroom as per current prices here in Pune) for Z8 Diesel AT 2WD as compared to Z8S Diesel 2WD only for the following:
  1. Push Start button (Not sure if this can be installed as an accessory)
  2. Auto Headlamps and Wipers (accessory?)
  3. 'Proper' second car key
  4. Dual Zone Automatic climate control
  5. TPMS (Can install as an accessory)
  6. Anti Pinch Co-driver window (This should be standard along with max airbags)
  7. Chrome Door handles (Definitely accessory)

Looking for worthy inputs from my fellow bhpians as always ;-).

P.S. I would have gone for the lowest automatic Diesel Z4 had there been max number of airbags there but this is a case where a decision needs to be made between 2 lower variants with 6 airbags (the most important criteria for me, I drive only ATs btw).

Best Regards,
Achint

Don't think any of the above are critical features and if you can live without them, you shouldn't spend that amount imo.

But I was used to a push start button in my ecosport and my elantra has a dual auto climate control. My Marazzo doesn't have both and I think these are both reaply good to have functions. But then it's not worth spending 1.7l more for these alone.

Mahindra shouldn't have cut the TPMS in this trim as its a key safety feature. Yes, it can be retrofitted but most of the people like to maintain their car stock and also for a price of 20Lakhs they shouldn't have cut on TPMS.

I don't think any of these are features you will miss much or will compromise your safety. The only exception is push button start and full keyless entry - these make it really convenient, as you can leave your keys in your office bag as you go about your day. Dual zone ACC may have some value since manual AC control on my Thar bucks - the lowest setting is already too much noise and air for me.

Two very strong points that I hope MnM gets. Often I think it's beyond them.

1a. I sold my Z6 off primarily since the Z8 had 6 airbags.
1b. I want to get rid of my Thar for the same reasons. I'll be listing it tomorrow.
2. The Z8 auto AC is miles ahead of the Z6 simply because a 4 knob speed control is severely insufficient. The closest I can come to dealing with the AC in the thar is having replaced the vents with RGB vents, point more at me when the wife says it's too cold. Also, the vents leak all over the place and pointing them at the feet results in front cent leakage etc. The reason I mention this is that the speed concern was common between the Z6 and Thar.

Why is it so hard to get basic AC setups right?
The auto AC seems to have not just 8 speeds, but also regulates the vent, the air direction, and is a good setup.

I was in the similar dilemma while selecting variant for ScorpioN. Infact launch of Z8 select varient which drew me towards ScorpioN.

For me absence of auto ac in Z8 select was deal breaker. I could have lived with all other missing features. Forget dual zone auto ac if Z8 select came with single zone auto ac then also I would have definitely gone with it.

In the end I bought Z8L 2WD D AT. Now after 2 months and 1500 km I am glad I did not go for Z8 select.

Push button start, auto ac, front camera, powered driver seat, 12 speaker audio system, TPMS are some of features I find very useful.
