2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look

The Mahindra XUV700 has sold over 1,40,000 units since its launch in 2021 and it is the fastest Mahindra car to achieve this landmark. However, there haven’t been any major changes to the car since its launch. For 2024, Mahindra has made a few tweaks to the exterior and interior of the XUV700, so let’s take a look.

2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_01.jpg

Since the Mahindra XUV700 has already been reviewed by Team-BHP, this report will only focus on the changes made to the 2024 model. To read the full test-drive, click here.

Exterior

Overall design language remains the same. What’s new is this Napoli Black paint shade. You can also opt for a dual-tone Napoli black roof with all variants except the base MX. The AX7 and AX7L variants are offered with an all-black theme where all the elements are blacked out:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_02.jpg

All-black front grille. with chrome Mahindra logo at the front. Silver skid plate looks out of place and should’ve been blacked out as well:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_03.jpg

Not much has changed on the sides, except that the chrome highlight on the window line is now finished in black:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_04.jpg

Wheels on this all-black themed AX7L variant are painted black:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_05.jpg

All-wheel disc brakes are standard across all variants. Front discs are ventilated, while the rear discs are solid:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_06.jpg

Rear silver skid plate looks odd on this all-black themed car:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_07.jpg

Thankfully, roof rails also get the black treatment:

Interior

While the exterior gets an all-black theme, the interior is more or less untouched:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_09.jpg

You get dark chrome inserts on the side A/C vents instead of brushed silver:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_10.jpg

Same goes for the central A/C vents as well. IMO, this looks better than the brushed silver finish:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_18.jpg

You still don’t get an auto-dimming IRVM. Mahindra should’ve added this feature at least in the top variants:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_11.jpg

Adrenox connected car suite now gets 83 features (13 more than before) which includes an Ecosense leaderboard, M lens, toll diary and more. These can be installed over-the-air using the internet of the inbuilt e-sim:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_12.jpg

Front seats finally get ventilation. Sadly, there are no physical buttons for operating the seat ventilation. You must operate it through the touchscreen from the A/C controls menu. This is especially cumbersome when using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay when you must go to the Mahindra interface and then open the A/C controls screen to change the seat ventilation settings. Mahindra should have provided physical buttons for seat ventilation:

While having a 360-degree camera is a good feature, the camera quality feels basic by 2024 standards. Some cars from a segment below have better cameras. The display is laggy and doesn't really have a lot of definition:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_14.jpg

One nice addition to the features list is that the memory function that was earlier only for the driver seat also stores the ORVM positions:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_16.jpg

The car that we drove in 2021 had a plastic panel with a white wood finish. It has been replaced by this leatherette material that’s similar to the dashboard. While it doesn’t really make much of a difference, the wooden finish looked better as it felt a bit more unique. This feels a bit too bland:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_17.jpg

One of the biggest talking points on the 2024 model is the addition of captain seats in the middle row. As of now, the AX7 and AX7 L variants are offered in the 6-seater and 7-seater configurations. The 5-seater version from these 2 variants has been discontinued:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_22.jpg

Captain seats add an extra bit of comfort to the rear. They offer good overall support and the side bolstering keeps you in place on twisty roads. The under-thigh support is good for someone who’s my height (5’10”) and the legroom is decent too. Unfortunately, the seats are fixed and can’t be moved backwards to liberate more legroom:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_20.jpg

You can recline the backrest for a little more comfort. You cannot, however, go full flat like in some cars. The recline angle is limited. Also, note that the armrest moves up as you recline the seat which makes it unusable when the backrest is in reclined position:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_21.jpg

The individual armrests are thin but usable:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_24.jpg

Pull this lever to recline the backrest or…
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_25.jpg

…to tumble the seat forward:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_26.jpg

Right-hand side seat doesn’t tumble, it just folds flat:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_27.jpg

Third-row passengers can pull on this lever of the left side middle seat to tumble it:
2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look-2024_mahindra_xuv700_resized_29.jpg

Passengers in the third row get a blower unit with 3 speeds. Notice the XUV700 branding on the speaker:

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look

Yawn.

This seems like a half hearted attempt. If they set out to update the car anyway, why not give it more features like an electrochromic IRVM (!!!), sliding second row, funkier colours and probably a fresh alloy wheel design at the very least? C'mon Mahindra!

Don't get me wrong; I love the XUV700 and it remains my choice in the segment, but that doesn't mean Mahindra can get lazy. When I saw the spy shots with full camouflage, I thought something might be cooking. But all we got is (seat) cooling!

I should probably thank them for not naming this the "XUV700 Jupiter edition" (looking at you, Thar Earth edition)

What I find more odd are the white headrests "peeking" out of the rear windshield of the all-black car.

This is disappointing. Even with captain seats, M&M have not introduced sliding mechanism in the 2nd row. Heck, even the Triber & Ertiga have it.

The definition of the 360-degree camera is just ridiculous. It's so low-quality that it's hard to make out anything clearly. It seems like it's only there for show...

It's very disappointing that an opportunity wasted to make this a better car to live with. Only one update which is worth considering. I really hope they did work on the basic electronics and mechanical issues it was plagued with the first version.

Looking at the miniscule amount of changes made, it should maybe called the Pluto Edition!

Guess Mahindra is just getting lazy here. Why fix something which isn't broken and is keeping the cash register ringing?!

The Napoli Black looks smashing though!

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look

Half hearted update at best. Only visible updates are the 2nd row captain seats and front seat ventilation. And even there, they are half hearted attempts.

The captain seats don't move fore & aft, let alone the soft headrests, ventilated rear seats and sunblinds that the Safari has.

The Safari has all its powered seat controls and ventilation buttons in the seat frame itself. Could say cost cutting or TATA couldn't bother adding buttons elsewhere for their midlife facelift. But Mahindra, ironically went all the way with Merc style powered seat controls on the door. Yet, they couldn't bother putting a separate button for ventilation and just programmed a few codes in the touchscreen.

Alloys are the easiest to change, yet here they just balcked out the existing alloys. And let us not forget the manual day/night IRVM.

Only one reaction to this supposed "facelift" from Mahindra - DAMP SQUIB!

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look

Good updates from Mahindra XUV700 2024 variants. Ventilated seats and captain seats were much needed.

We must understand that the 2024 variants are not a Facelift or some special edition. They are just 2024 variants with few updates. The price increase is also nominal from 20k to 50k.

One minor change that was desired was the odd placement of rear camera. Even after 3 years, Mahindra has not changed the rear camera placement.

Mahindra, what would it take you to add this feature? After owning an XUV500 for almost 10 years, I can say that this was one of the biggest let downs (and maybe the only one) for me and prevented me from going for the XUV700. It has space, but what is the use if you cannot utilize it properly?

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look

Not long ago, the buyers wanted chrome everywhere. Now, the pendulum has swung the other way, and everything must be blackened -- including that hideous black paint on otherwise reasonable looking wheels. Black exterior and off-white interiors: what was the design brief I wonder - "Forget practicality"?

Good observation - There is a ~ 2L delta between this and Safari for the captain seat version, without getting into the dark edition etc.

I guess when they are already doing ~6500 units, best not to mess with it this year and focus on 4 door Thar instead.

This all black treatment is very impractical in my opinion and without meticulous care the vehicle will visibly age very quickly, especially the wheels thanks to brake dust.

Agree. I wonder what prompted M&M to screw the interior aesthetics.
No physical buttons for ventilated seats! I'd rather sweat my back than go through all those steps while driving.
Still no auto-dimming IRVM!!

Lastly, I wonder if M&M have stopped using Fevicol/Fevibond and invested in a proper adhesive for the logo.
I see many XUV7OO on the road whose badge have fallen off, mostly the "L" is missing or half the "X" in "AX" is gone. Completely unacceptable for a car in this price segment!

Re: 2024 Mahindra XUV700 : A Close Look

Cannot call it an uplift.

Seems like M&M analysed the facelifted Safari and decided to bring minimum possible changes just to ensure its sales numbers are unaffected. I’ll wait for the actual facelift (2025?) which should again ensure this remains in the undisputed no#1 in its segment position.
