Re: NGT rejects SPG plea to extend life of 3 Prime Minister’s vehicles

Please dissolve NGT. Many of their decisions are irrational. Kindly replace them with a proper think tank

Re: NGT rejects SPG plea to extend life of 3 Prime Minister’s vehicles

Do we have any lawyers onboard? Does anyone know the legality behind the NGT? What is it? Is it a judiciary body or a branch of the government or is it like the Reserve Bank/Federal Reserve? A private/independent body, completely outside the legal/judiciary blanket and fully immune from any and all legal procedures?
To know who benefits from existence of that third grade body replete with 'Babus', without any technical expertise and scientific methodologies, we need to follow the money trail and identify the persons/organizations that were behind creation of this entity.

O.T: FYI, Bill Gates is in India since the past 3 weeks. I wonder what novel and innovative health/automation/robotics suggestions he's giving to the government.
Maybe chalking out pathways for further deployment/mandates of upcoming cutting-edge health technologies? Who knows. /shrugs

Re: NGT rejects SPG plea to extend life of 3 Prime Minister’s vehicles

Every day I wake up with a bit more dislike for NGT. Abolish them. They do more harm than good (if any, at all). Additionally, sack the SC panel that approved the 10/15 rule.

2.Morever if a VIP requires so much security to move in their own country it says a lot about status of security in the country.
The US spent on average $2mn a day to guard Bush (figures aren't available but a memoir by his body guard gave us this estimate). That's $2mn a day in 2004 money.

Pretty much every major democracy spends billions on the security details of it's sitting Prime Ministers and Presidents. Do you doubt the status of security in every country on earth? You should actually, because there have been a lot of assassinations of sitting and past heads of states. The last major one being that of Shinzo Abe.

Re: NGT rejects SPG plea to extend life of 3 Prime Minister’s vehicles

NGT can dictate that not even PM's high specification, bullet proof vehicles can no longer be on the road. PMO office will buy new cars with tax payers money, no big deal. Now these cars are auctioned and ply on the road, elsewhere in the country. So logically will there be no pollution caused by these cars in this city? Lol, what lame rules!

There needs to be study done on the damage this 10/15 rule is doing to the environment by making it mandatory for owners to change their perfectly running car. But who will do it, car companies are happy to sell more cars and government is making more money from taxes.

Re: NGT rejects SPG plea to extend life of 3 Prime Minister’s vehicles

It amazes me how these institutions can take decisions that beats the most basic common sense that a lot of us average folk would have. Would I be wrong into thinking that all the decisions coming from most of these and other similar institutions are just orders being read out, that have been handed to them by the govt. themselves? The SPG perhaps wanted new updated vehicles as is the case with almost the entirety of Modi's cavalcade and this is just a ruse for them to get past any public outcry that would entail if they were to just buy new vehicles without having to run them by the NGT.

Re: NGT rejects SPG plea to extend life of 3 Prime Minister’s vehicles

Always wondered, why is it impossible to have a new engine or an emissions system upgrade which complies with prevailing emission norms, installed in vehicles that have what are considered to be polluting engines? The cost would be a lot less, and would also significantly reduce the environmental impact of scrapping an entire vehicle and building a new one.

Currently the economy in the world revolves around use-and-throw type consumption. There is no place of repairability, just buy a whole new product after dumping the old one which is otherwise in perfectly working condition barring one or two unfit components.

Look at the mobiles, we have to dump them just after battery goes dead, there is no uniform battery protocol for otherwise similar sized devices. Thousand of mobile models have thousands types of batteries which are not available to replace when we need them, resulting into dumping the other working components. No wonder why the companies like Apple oppose the right to repair bill.

Imagine what will be the situation when all the cars will be EVs, we will have to dump them after 7-8 or 10 years of life span once batteries will go dead because new replacement batteries will not be available for our old models. Different cars have different batteries with proprietary designs, so no aftermarket alternatives either.

Just think what causes more digging of resources from the earth, Producing new or repairing old?

What is more polluting? repair and drive the old one or dump and buy the new?

2 reasons I can think of straight-away:

1. Potentially disadvantages big manufacturing
2. Can proliferate smaller operators with dubious safety and operational standards
