Re: My Amaze feels fun to drive, should I get myself checked?

I can relate to what you are going through, have a XUV 700 diesel have done 400000 kilometres in 2 years then a couple of months ago bought a tiago AMT for my wife and been using that since then almost 1500 kilometres now and the XUV has had less running. I think its fun to drive the tiago too contrary to majority of opinions.

Re: My Amaze feels fun to drive, should I get myself checked?

Having driven most of the Naturally aspirated engines throughout my Car journey so far (approx 25 years), and having driven Turbo petrol's and diesels extensively, I truly believe that NA's being ridiculed by the "enthusiast" community is not totally justified.

True, the turbo kick is addictive, but you get used to it after some time and the feeling doesn't last long.

On the other hand, I find NA's (specially Honda's 1.5 iVTEC and Suzuki's 1.2 K12M), to be super fun to drive. With no hassles of turbo lag (as there is no turbocharger ofcourse), the instant power and revv happy nature of these vehicles is that gives me more pleasure than a turbo petrol/diesels, atleast in city limits.

The thing I abhor most about turbo powered cars, specially the lower capacity 1.0/1.2 in the mass market, is the turbo lag. For instance, I absolutely hated the drive feel of i20 N-Line in city traffic, and the 1.5 L on the Honda Elevate/City was so much more fun, at least in crowded city traffic where you need instantaneous throttle response.

Ofcourse there are better turbo petrol's out there, the Skoda's 1.5 TSI or even Mahindra's mStallion in the XUV700, but then fuel efficiency in single digits means these are not very practical for heavy everyday usage in city.

Re: My Amaze feels fun to drive, should I get myself checked?

You are absolutely normal, don't worry. Every car has its own character, you need to learn that and drive accordingly to enjoy it fully.

I have Ertiga for last 3 years now and I enjoy it thoroughly. It has 1.5 liter petrol engine which is not very fast but does the job perfectly. I do sedate speeds of 70-80 kmph on highways & enjoy my drive with maximum efficiency while listening to my favorite music. If required, it can do speeds for 100-120 easily.

With Ertiga, I can carry 6-7 people together with reasonably good comfort in single car. Having 6-7 friends in a single car, roaming around in Goa and cracking dumb jokes is unlimited fun than going at 140 kmph speed on highway IMHO.

So in a nutshell, enjoy whatever car you have. Attitude is more important than having fast car. I have seen unhappy people in Merc's and BMW's and also seen people very happy, enjoying in Maruti 800, Alto, etc.

Re: My Amaze feels fun to drive, should I get myself checked?

This is a good thread.

In these modern days of zillions of horsepower and squillions of torque and ‘bolt on enhancements’ like small turbo engines, there is a still a certain joy to be found in driving a car with a naturally aspirated engine with small to mid level displacement.

I have written about this before and I stand by those words.

Driving a small naturally aspirated engined, manual transmission machine, rowing through the gears, revving through the power-band and enjoying the gearbox whine is an indescribable feeling.

It is about how well the engine and gearbox mesh and how light and responsive the vehicle is.

It is about the sound and the feel and the engine note and gearbox whine and the ‘Soul’.

We should enjoy driving a slower car faster, in our fast paced, digitally distracted and impatient world.

If we miss this now, it will be too late!

So, long story short, there is a ‘Tribe’ of us kindred spirits out there - and perhaps a larger concentration of these are to be found on this forum!
