NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Indian Car Scene.

Honda elevate down to just 1550 units.
It sold 4500 units in January, and 3300 in March.

These are alarming numbers for Honda. Don't see them sticking around too long with these numbers.
They've already delayed the New amaze way too long.

And Jeep, well, the less said the better.

One must appreciate how the Maruti Ciaz is constantly selling above 500 units despite being so old in a segment that is almost dead. Now it could do wonders if Maruti gives it a nice update. I don't understand why Maruti is not interested in doing so. Not that the Ciaz is VFM or something, one can get a similarly equipped base Honda City at a not so substantial price increment (please correct me if I am wrong).

Even the Mahindra Marazzo has so much potential. All it needs is a new name and a nice facelift (if possible, a comprehensive one).

Elevate numbers are indeed alarming. Did not expect them to fall so soon. Honda really needs to reconsider adding a hybrid variant to it.

It seems that the new Swift is gaining popularity. Or is it just hype? Regardless, it has raced to the number one spot, dethroning the Tata Punch, although the difference is just a few hundred. It would be interesting to see if the Swift can maintain it's position next month, or if the Punch will reclaim it.

Another month has passed, and once again, the Creta is holding the fort for Hyundai in the top 10.

In the manufacturer ranking, Hyundai is still holding on to the second spot, but Tata and Mahindra are not far behind. It's encouraging to see Indian manufacturers giving Hyundai a close fight for it's position.

Exactly! Ciaz is mainly used by the government officials. When I had gone to service my Baleno, I saw 5 of them getting ready for delivery. When I asked my SA, he said that these cars are being delivered to the local city corporation officers.

OTOH, Honda Elevate sales are decreasing day by day . All this car needs is a Panoramic Sunroof and a good Turbo Petrol/Hybrid engine :thumbs up

Maruti may be producing Ciaz now only for govt. departments. I am not seeing any privately owned Ciaz on roads.

As the World loves SUVs, India too aligns with it.

SUV sales in India cross 200,000 units for fifth consecutive month in May.

Quote:

As per SIAM wholesales data and also company numbers, the UV segment, which comprises SUVs and MPVs, dispatched a total of 216,572 units in May 2024, up 17% year on year (May 2023: 185,100 units).

There’s more news on the UV number-crunching front: cumulative five-month sales at 1.13 million units constitute a handsome 26% YoY increase (January-May 2023: 897,980 units). And, the 11,30,901 UVs sold between January and May 2024 are already 48% of the record 2.35 million UVs sold in CY2023, which were up 22% on CY2022’s 1.92 million UVs.

Of the 16 OEMs in the fray, five stand out in volume terms and between them make up for 202,740 units or 93% of the UVs dispatched to dealer showrooms in May 2024. Let’s take a look at how the top UV manufacturers fared in May 2024.

Baleno+Glanza, Fronx+Taisor, GV+HR, Ertiga+Rumion. These if taken as one instead of a pair, Japanese dominance is complete. Masterstroke JV. Honda is not willing to recognize that they no longer provide the aspirational or sought after features such as ventilated seats and 360 camera, turbo, and expect a 1-1.5 L premium over similarly specced rivals. The fear that they may be forced out of the Indian market may be keeping buyers away, worsening the prospects. They have no game left, even if the Elevate hybrid were to be brought in now, it would be a little too late, and likely it will be overpriced too. The 'Winsome Runabout Vehicle' aka WR-V aka Elevate is not winning many buyers here.

The trend shows VW and Skoda twin sedans emerging as popular choice in the limited and conservative Sedan segment. Honda City which was the favorite of the masses in the segment has definitely lost its appeal and rightly so as because it is no longer a match for the European DSG twins. Hyundai Verna started with a bang, however it's polarizing looks porabably is less preferred to the more conventional design language of the European sedans. Verna also looks like it's running out of steam. Facelifted Slavia and the upcoming Sports variants of the Virtus could further increase their sales and emerge as dominant players in the limited sedan space.

The facelift seems to have worked for XUV 300. There is a significant increase in number of cars sold. The car sorely needed an interior and a feature set update. That seems to have worked.

I still feel they could have worked on the boot space a bit but apart from that XUV 3xo seems to be a great package now.

I cannot quiet believe the fall in numbers of Nexon. One month I could understand but this is the third month running of fall in numbers. Is the Punch and Nexon made on the same line? Only then can I understand the fall in numbers. There is absolutely no reason for sales of Nexon to fall and for the Punch volumes to rise.
