Re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

This is the most one-liners-loaded thread I've seen here since long.

Inspite of their Japanese tea culture, Suzuki guys don't seem to be reading the tea leaves all too well.

Indian market now want safe cars! Just see the sales numbers of s-presso, celerio, alto et al. vs Tiago, punch etc

Meanwhile, Leaked 2030 wagon R prototype -

An interesting read, related to the topic.

Actually, I am a little surprised by this radio silence. As per my industry sources, three vehicles of Suzuki (possibly Baleno, GV and Brezza, I maybe wrong though) have been tested as per BNCAP norms and results are known to relevant parties. However, there is no communication that is being made public. I think, even Hyundai vehicles have been tested too. Again, there is complete silence. All this while TATA results are being published. All this makes, things confusing and suspicious.

Precisely why I'm suspicious, I'd be surprised if the new Swift scores even a mediocre 3 stars, let alone 5! Cmon maruti, surprise me and publish those results. It's the best reply possible to people who question marutis commitment to making safe cars.

Firstly, nobody belittled small car owners. Secondly, if fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions are the only priority then why don't other global giants follow the cutting edge approach of Maruti? A 700 kg vehicle sways when a heavy vehicle overtakes it at speed, gets affected by cross winds, feels floaty on highways and not to forget Maruti's stellar safety record.

Maruti has been consistently increasing the percentage usage of High Tensile Steel and Ultra High Tensile Steel in almost all models, especially the ones on Heartect platform. It has strived to provide the best steel possible in terms of strength while reducing the weight.

This results in the weight reduction of various parts which in effect reduces the overall weight of the models.

It will be fantastic to learn what steel and which brand do various auto giants use in their models. The metallurgy behind automobiles is I guess not much shared anywhere.

Wild guess: it could be because GNCAP also decided to test one of the vehicles in the middle (or maybe Toyota initiated testing). Their secretary general recently used "Maruti" and "good" in the same sentence:
Quote:
This is what Latin NCAP asks local governments to indicate where the regulation is going for the next decade and more than regulate in the short term. After 10 years of work, popular cars in India are in the process of offering 6 airbags, ESP and pedestrian protection as standard. We see examples such as the Hyundai Grand i10, the Verna (Indian Accent) or the recent launches of Suzuki Maruti and Tata. Today in India there are vehicles of good safety and cheaper than in Latin America, which are the same as those in our region, which represents a strong competitor for vehicles in Latin America.

I have been driving Maruti's infamous Spresso since last 2 years and I have never found it swaying during driving. Neither oncoming traffic nor crosswinds has any effect on its composure during drive.
But stop the Spresso on the roadside, then fast moving traffic do shake the vehicle.
During drive the traffic has no effect.

The reason could be that none of the three vehicles tested (Baleno, GV and Brezza) comes with 6 airbags as standard. Probably the wait is for Maruti to equip the base variants of these cars with 6 airbags as well.
