re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

As if the earlier Heartect Platform was heavier

But this will keep the Alto buyers happy as it will deliver 27-28 kmpl.

re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

I just had a ‘heartburn’.

Does Maruti realise the ‘heft’ of this headline? The weight of their platform may be lower, but the weight on their shoulders to make this platform safer is sure immense.

On a ‘lighter’ note, it seems Maruti haven’t taken the earlier criticism to ‘heart’

Re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

Load up on Maruti Suzuki stock folks, we are well on our way to seeing our first commercially produced flying car.

Add a couple to foldable wings and with a couple of platform iterations (that drops the platform weight by another 200kg), we can start playing with traffic jams in three dimensions.

/end rant

Re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

From the years of driving, what I feel is that all body sizes have an optimal weight. Both unnecessarily heavy cars and unnecessarily light cars add to the driving fatigue. And passenger fatigue. One of my main gripe with Maruti's (barring the Ritz and SX4 - never drove an S-Cross) - is that their lightness and the suspension setup gives cheap thrills but adds a lot to the fatigue. I always have loved cars which mask speeds well as they don't cause fatigue even after driving them for say 8 hours. And the build on the last generation Swift was annoying after having experienced Gen 1 (the best) and Gen 2 (acceptable). if the newer ones are getting even lighter, sigh!

Re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

So 580kg. Almost same as the old 800.

Not sure why, but I am kinda excited for this to see the end result. How would be the performance and fuel efficiency, would they make it different for different markets, would they have reached the holy grail of light weight and safe, will the Indian version have the same weight but have larger engines for which they would remove....

Another ~100kgs off, and they could classify it as a quadricycle, thereby escaping from any crash test requirements.

Maybe introduce plastic crumple zones, designed to reduce cost and weight.

The driver *is* the part of the crumple zone.

This! So called fanboys who call Marutis zippy need to understand that the equation changes completely on long drives. Most Marutis feel out of their comfort zone above 90 km/h (on the ride and handling front).

Re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

If Maruti reduce weight of the cars at this pace, very soon we will see flying cars from Maruti and "Flying feature" will be auto-enabled during a windy day!

Jokes aside, it is okay to have lighter cars for city use but these cars shouldn't get fitness certificate from government for highway runs. We need this new process from government, which can save lives.

Someone tell Maruti that weight reduction is only brag worthy when they maintain the same or even increases material strength and safety. Replacing critical components with aluminium foil is something you keep secret.

Did Maruti really use "tin light" in the start of the slide to denote the weight of the first car? Or is it photoshopped?

On a lighter side, even in their own corporate presentation should not be mentioning light weight , lest it becomes public. As the public and enthusiasts won't take this lightly!

Re: Suzuki to make Heartect platform another 100 KG lighter

Maruti should get into designing formula 1 cars. The rate at which they are able to reduce weight, they will have a mean winning F1 machine in no time.
