NOTES:

1: Thanks to the team at Auto Punditz for sharing these sales numbers with us!

2: Only cars that sell 500+ units (and thus, the relevant ones) have been included in the gainers & losers chart.

3. These manufacturer-reported sales numbers are factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers.

Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Indian Car Scene.

Highlights:-

Maruti: Business as usual. Brezza has posted it's highest sales ever. Jimny is back to square one! MSIL should permanently reduce it's price to ₹9.99L.

Hyundai: Hatchback sales have been declining, thanks to Exter and Venue.

Tata: Curvv.ev has a good start and might reach 10K+ units in september as Curvv ICE is already launched. Altroz sales have started declining. Tata, where's the facelift and Racer DCT?

Mahindra: The XUV3XO seems to love the number 0 because since it's launch, it's sales figures always end with '0' lol:. The XUV700's price cut has helped increase its sales. Despite launching the Thar Roxx, the sales of Thar didn't take a big hit!

Toyota: The Hyryder's sales have suddenly increased over the past few months. What's the reason?

Kia: Seltos is barely reaching 7-8K units now-a-days.

OT: I'm really curious to know who bought the X-Trail and Superb in August. I'd love to be friends with them :D.

More than Tata taking the second spot, Mahindra is knocking on the door to claim the third spot. Interesting!

Creta's dominance in the C2 segment has been unprecedented! What a run. Interesting to see Alcazar gaining numbers when the facelift is just around the corner. Stock clearance perhaps.

Seltos is doing consistent numbers, but could do a lot better. Kia India needs to stop whatever they are smoking and offer the NA IVT option on Seltos's top trim. This one decision can turn things around for them. The recently launched Gravity trim isn't going to help much. Plus they hiked the prices! Really poor business acumen.

Jeep, Nissan, Citroen, Renault are really struggling. Wouldn't be surprised if one or two of them shut their shops and leave.

I have a rather interesting observation, not only for this month but since a long time.

Maruti's K15C, in it's various avatars (mild Hybrid, normal petrol, CNG) powers the following (in decreasing order of sales):

1. Maruti Brezza
2. Maruti Ertiga
3. Maruti Grand Vitara
4. Toyota Hyryder
5. Maruti XL6
6. Toyota Rumion

If we take a rough estimate on the number of K15C sold each month, based on the monthly sales figure of above listed cars, and excluding the strong Hybrids, the figure is close to around 45-50 k per month !

Those are just staggering figures, and goes to suggest that K15C is a big money spinner for Maruti. It does export it too and that adds to it value in Maruti's portfolio.

Back in 2007-2017, the FIAT sourced Multijet diesel engine powered so many cars in it's various versions, that it was known as the National engine of India.

Now one can safely say that the new national engine is becoming the K15C, but what this engine still cannot claim is the perfect balance of performance and fuel efficiency and driviablity that the MJD had.

I guess this time's highlight would be the Maruti Ertiga grabbing the first position. While everyone was looking at the Punch, Wagon R, or Swift, the Ertiga silently got ahead of everyone.

Maruti still dominates the Top 10 count with six models on the list. The once-topper Alto sliding to the 19th position says a lot about the SUV craze. We have only four B-segment cars in the Top 20 list, and those are from Maruti only.

Although the Exter managed to get back into the Top 20 list, Hyundai has only the Creta in the Top 10 list. Not really a good picture for the number 2 manufacturer. If Venue sales continue to fall, Hyundai might be left with only one car in the Top 20 list.

The Tata Punch dropped to number 5. Is the golden period of the Punch over? Besides the Punch, Tata only has the Nexon in the Top 20 list, which is again not an ideal situation for a manufacturer looking to claim the number 2 spot.

Heartfelt congratulations to the 6 new owners of the Nissan X Trail. Would love to see you guys on team BHP some day:Cheering:

Citroen clearly needs to market Basalt more. Today marks the start of festive season in India. Ganapati, Navratris, Dusshera and Diwali will be big money spinners for all car makers.

Interesting, 9007 XUV700 vs 1951 Safari + 1892 Harrier. At 43277 units in August, Mahindra is just shy of 1000 units from overtaking Tata Motors to gain the No. 3 spot.
Any reason why BYD's numbers are not tracked?

Same goes for the CBU Skoda Superb owners. As per the sales data, only 36(out of 100) Superbs have been sold. They may soon introduce a 50% discount to sell the remaining ones.

They may be dealer display cars for some premium showrooms like the top metros. Only Vahan should give us some data if they host data for individual model of the cars sold.
