This thread was in my mind for a long time.
But the natural habit of procrastination led to delaying the idea for many months.

The recent thread on https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...-got-away.html (Cars We Let Go – The One That Got Away) prompted me to post this thread.
In the above we discussed the cars that were available but couldn’t be bought for what so ever reason.

As it is said Let bygones be bygones, here in this thread we will discuss cars that are still available to buy at a mouthwatering prices or which just feels ‘special’.
Criteria- (May suffice 1 or more criteria)
1. Priced less than market price
2. Niche category that were produced in limited numbers like- VW GTI

Ex:1. I found there are many luxury cars available in NCR which are registered in different state available at a great price
2. Distress sales

Anyone who is looking to buy a pre-worshipped luxury sedan should look no further. The W222 S-Class has HORRIBLE resale value because of the SUV craze, it's too big, too old (12 years since the car was unveiled) and the maintenance bills are hefty (e.g. 5 lakhs for air suspension work every 5 years).

Because of that, the last-generation S-Class is actually the best luxury car deal on the market . It has started trading hands at merely 25 lakhs for the 2014-15 cars. Don't buy such an old one though, it's just asking for trouble.

On the other hand, what you should buy is a later year facelift model (new 9-speed gearbox and inline-6 engine), going cheap. Example, this 2018 car.

1. Asking is 53, I think you should be able to close at 50. That is a great price and you are getting a LOT of car for 50 lakhs (best car in the world, in fact).

2. Being sold by the used arm of a BMW dealer. So, deal might be a bit more trustworthy.

3. Has run just 39,000 km.

4. Corporate Car, Corporate Registration.

5. W222 reliability is considered to be "good" by all owners, especially for the later build years.

The S5 that you have listed here seems like a shoddy accidental repair job with many parts aftermarket or changed, might also be a meter reverse job, the other two i would recommend a serious check, because Delhi NCR dealers have a knack of buying cheap accidental out of state cars or even water submerged, repairing them for cheap and then listing them.
Just my experience over all the years with NCR dealers, I had seen these cars prior to this thread on olx and thought the same.

As with all used car purchased, due diligence very important.

To add a recent find to the mix: there's a BMW 730LD that caught my eye. It was originally registered under a corporate company and later transferred to the employee’s name. Driven almost entirely by a chauffeur — about 90% of its usage — the car has clocked just 50,000 km and is immaculately maintained. Honestly, it’s flawless. For ₹36 lakhs, that’s a whole lot of car for the money. Might go and check it out, sitting in the back in a 7 to snooze off in bangalore traffic might not be a bad idea after all.

I have a feeling that this thread will be populated by distress sales out of NCR (for now. The rest, await your turn. Its coming soon enough ).

In that case, treat everything coming by way of a dealer as 99% suspect. Look for individual sales. Heck, just avoid any dealer altogether.

And there's some rough seas to be navigated there too, as dealers also impersonate owners very often. Its only at late stages that you find out that you've been dealing with a dealer person.

I have really started to envy BHPians not based in NCR.
You have so much freedom of buying a 7-8 year DIESEL barge and using it till extinction. Here we can’t even think of buying 2016/17 Petrol barges.

Regarding W222 S-Class, I think horrible resale holds true just for Diesel version I guess, not able to find any Petrol W222 >2020 at a good bargain.

I personally didn’t talk to anyone, Except- The A6 guy, that seemed like a reseller

Just proving the above point of the Draconian NCR Rule.

Get this 2022 740Li 19k run, Direct Owner is being quoted at 85 big ones. And that’s the cheapest I could find on all the platforms. Majorly others are listed >90L.

Diesel barge do have a Tanking Resale, but I guess Petrol ones can still hold a decent value.

And I thought 'too good to be true' deals are exactly that - too good to be true.

I for one will buy a used car in India from the 'value segment' only, and only as a second car. There, the margin to cheat and my exposure is much lower. Even so, you should assume that mileage has been tampered with in all cases.

And this reputation for cheats ruling the used car market is not unique to India. Every market has its share of swindlers. But more mature markets do have a respect for maintaining service records as a public service. Absent that, its a jungle out there.

That being said, what may certainly help is if you can explain your inspection process, what are your red flags, and how did you sift the oranges from the lemons in your recent purchases.

I am with the same opinion. There are already two similar threads with good reach and frequent participation. One being the BHPian owned cars for sale and other with Use Car Price Check thread. If someone finds a good deal online or offline then they may post the same in the Used Car Price Check thread. BHPians can post their cars in the relevant BHPian owned cars for sale thread.
