Its official. Curtains down for Esteem

Economic Times: Article Window

Its official now. Esteem will be phased out by Jan 2008.
And if we go by the photograph of the new Swift Sedan, its the same that has been doing rounds on the net(swift with a boot attached! )

Esteem had already lived its life and should have been discontinued long time back, but better late than never.

So sad, this car was so affordable and cheap to maintain and still delivered performance to shame cars above its price but then maruti must be cooking something better for value concious junta.

The car did a lot in Rallies and race circuits in India. Deserves a Graceful Demise.

Esteem, We'll miss you.

One question though.
Once fazed out, will maintaining Esteem say 3 yrs down line will be as cheap as it is now. Or will its spares become expensive.(Asked as a friend of mine chose to buy esteem over Ikon just coz Esteem spares are cheaper)

You do mean a graceful retirement, dont you ?!

Maruti shouldnt have any second thoughts with this decision. The Esteem has seen a long and successful life for a mass-production sedan by todays standards.

Dont want to change the purpose of this thread. But, Is there a confirmed photo of Swift sedan anywhere? I think there was another thread where it was still being speculated...

deep_bang,
There was that photo on economics times. (same stuff that we have seen earlier).
Thats as official as it is for now.
But no indication that that was the official photo release.
Infact that photo didnt even have any caption!

Esteem really redefined driving comfort in its era. As fellow BHPians said, the car delivered amazing performance in the motorsport sector. It trully does deserve graceful retirement.

swift sedan has already been shown at an earlier auto expo. i've seen it. just the swift hatchback with the extended boot..
and yes it is confirmed. a news channel flashed a few days ago... those headlines that keep running at the bottom of the screen.. said that the esteem will b replaced by the swift sedan in january.
price may not b a whole lot more. engine might b a 1.4 ltr. (i think)
should give logan run for the money...

as far as i know.. tht pic of the swift sedan.. ( the swift wid a boot ) which is circling around on the net is jst a photoshp chop of the regular swift hatchback...

wat i feel is tht we will get the liana which is almost discontinued elsewhere.. will be rebadged esteem.. and will be sold here. and the engine will remain the good old 1.3L.

So ugly car gets an ugly boot
How many decades will this last?

Note from the mod: The pic you posted has been removed. Its a photoshop job and as discussed several times, definitely not the car under question.
