Corolla Axio--May 2008 Launch???

I was surfing through the net when i saw this piece of news that the Corolla Axio is going to be launched in India in Mid-2008.

I thought it was a fluke but today on Top Speed (Star News) they confirmed the launch of Corolla Axio in the month of May in 2008.

The car was launched in Japan in 2006late. The car is extremely revamped & has got athletic looks. Pretty different from the contemprory looks as of now.

As per the pricing it is going to be in the range of 10-12Lacs.

Yeah! one more thing it is going to hv 2 engine options:

1. 1.5L 110 Bhp engine
2. 1.8L 130 Bhp engine.

Looks like Corolla is gearing up for competition both in mid-size & large size.

If Toyota India lauched even a quarter of the models they were purported to be launching, they'd be very high up in the desirability factor right now. But they're not. Because they havent launched a quarter of the models they were purported to be launching.

Is it only me or does the side profile of this car really bears so much resemblance to the NHC? To me it looks almost as if Honda reworked the looks a little bit to freshen up the City!

the axio looks big and doesnt have the NHC feel 2 it, but yeah i agree the malaysian version does look like a stretched boot NHC ... but the question is why ? why will toyota want a NHC look alike model ?

the car has so much of the NHC written all over it. i prefer the current shape of the corolla to this. i know toyota could have done better.

God save this country from another ugly sedan!

Looks similar to the mini-camry corolla selling in US. To be honest, it looks neither modern nor conventional. Kind of in between somewhere, but certainly a baby step forward from the current indian Corolla. However it does succeed in not looking like a monospace with a boot.

However Nissan Verso could be a possible participant in the same segment.
