Some Baleno spare parts are costly no doubt, but one has to pay more for better quality. IMO The SGP parts which cost more are of good quality.

Quite correct. Which is why it is better to pay more for the City.

but I dont agree with huge price difference of the two cars in the second hand market. the OHC is not that much better than the baleno to enjoy such a premium

This got me thinking..... I saw this in the Hindu Business Line

"On the SX4 sedan, Mr Mayank Pareek, Chief General Manager, Marketing, Maruti Udyog, said it was not a new Baleno, and has new features like dual air bags. "Baleno was not a failure. It was like a test vehicle and we learnt a lot from Baleno in retail, branding and pricing."

The Hindu Business Line : Maruti eyes commercial vehicle segment

So the Baleno wasn't a failure. Period.

Ram's post just about summarizes it.
Baleno certainly is a success for me, I got a power-packed big car, with all the bells and whistles I wanted for just over 6.5 lakhs. I look for chances to use the car, and service does not give me any acidity. I am comforted that Maruti will continue to keep spares for as long as i need them, and I plan to keep this beauty for at least six years (unless my tax adviser suggests otherwise).

Baleno was overpriced when it came out. The Accent and Ikon trumped it for value. By the time, Maruti reacted, the NHC trounced it again.

Remember the Baleno came out during the pre Khattar days when maruti had not woken up to competitivie forces

for me a sedan which weighs under a ton is nonsense,
so its a failure even to me. though SX4 is no different too.

by this what i mean is just hear the doors of the baleno getting closed, even a wagon r door sounds better.

ajmat's post... i second that

not a failure.. it was overpriced when launched. 8.5L for a 1.6, if they woudve priced it @ 6.5-7L, things would be diffrent

If the Baleno were to be priced under 7L at its launch, it would have been a big success. The car, I guess, was unfortunately pitched against Lancer and OHC instead of Ikon and Accent.

I think Ram's post says it all.

hope you know to recognise a Baleno !! and did not get your concept of weight. what has failure got anything to do with the weight of a sedan ??

Why should there be any discrepancy? Just pull up the sales figures for all the years the Baleno sold and compare with the competetion. That should tell the story. For a large company like MUL, anything less than 20% marketshare is a failure.
