My first car purchase was timed along with my birthday. I got my Ikon five days later, and on the very first evening i branded the car with a scratch on the front bumper. Nearly gave it another one on the door while trying to park it within my building's parking slot.

I never cared much for what day i was taking the delivery or time. All i wanted was the car.

Buying the first car (Santro LE, 2002) was an interesting experience, due to the circumstances at that time. Just a couple of days before the delivery, my dad was ill and was admitted to a hospital. At the time of car delivery, i had spent two consecutive nights at the hospital. Dad was okay, so along with friend, I went to the dealer and took the car.

My friend drove the new car and I drove his car on the way back. So, i had the pleasure of following my own car, which was being driven smoothly by an experienced driver

After temple, the first stop for the car was the hospital. My dad's first ride in our car was on the next day, upon his discharge.

First car was Premier Padmini 1986 July model, purchased 2nd hand in 1990 by parents. Learned driving cars on that car in the 1st 10 mins of my 1st stint in a driver's cabin. We upsized to Apollo radials- a big thing at the time, and later on upgraded to the intrument console and steering wheel that came in the last versions of the Padmini. This car was with me till my Engineering days - and by far is the most special car for me as well as the family.

Next was the Ford Ikon 1.6 Zxi purchased in 2002 for my brother's return to India. I funded 50% of the car with all the savings I had then; and consider this to be my first car; albeit jointly owned/used.

Now of course, I have my black Swift, the first car I purchased with my money completely. This is equally the most special car along with the Padmini, the memories of which wont go away for a very long time to come.

yet to experience the feeling of driving out a gleaming new car.

would have done it if i did not fall for the OHC VTEC. but no regrets, i did have the same feeling of paying for all that in white cash

does give me a certain pride, though i did not opt for a company lease as they did not support my choice.

nevertheless, my 2nd hand OHC VTEC was lovingly polished for free by the previous owner before handing over, so GLEAMING in the sun was it.

My first new car was a dark green M800STD bought in June 1998. It came in the form of a deal, so had not much of a choice. Used it for exactly 3 years, and sold it to wifes uncle when we moved abroad. The uncle still have it is an excellent condition. He takes much better care than I do.

The father-in-law commented that "show a car to him, and he will agree to any bad deal". I don't agree with him. Time proved that I was right, but that is OT.

I was all exited. I went there taking the bus. Maybe I looked naive, the salesguy asked me if I can drive. I said "A little bit, as I own a fiat". The new car smell, and the velvety seat covers were enough to intoxicate. Being used to driving the Padmini, the little M800 seemed to be in the class of the cars I rode in (not drove) abroad.

Reached home, took the wife and the infant on a joyride, went to my sisters home nearby, Took her and her two girls also along, took a round, dropped them back and came back home. That night the poor padmini slept in the street while the new girl took the garage.

Maruti Estilo on 14th September 2007. The car was the first in both our families and we cherished each moment of it. It made us so proud to own a car before we were thirty, paid in full.
