The New Mitsubishi Lancer

Hi.. Everyone has also forgotten about the New Mitsubishi lancer that is coming soon to India. Its going to be the same 4G63 engine that powers the evo's. This one is going to be without a turbo and is going to be detuned to 150bhp. But can be brought up to the evo standards and im sure people who get this car will do the same.. Any one has any news on when the launch is going to be ? The price is around 9~11 lac ex showroom. NOt a bad price considering the engine it has.

I doubt that an improvised version of Lancer wud be launched next.As per the reports and also wot i heard is that Mitsubishi is plannin to launch either the Galant or the Diamante in 2005.But any of these cars wud be good if they land in the Indian market.

lancer ...comes in 3 variants ..

one is the basic lancer (120bhp) ,others a lancer RAlliart (160bhp) ,thn the tubrocharged EVO (a basic evo has a 5 spd transmission whereas the EVO VIII has a six speed and gives 276b bhp) ..they will never bring the EVO tuned motor to india ... but a ralliart lancer will be fun .. so am guessing
gallant is a gud car a fresh addition to the mitsubishi line up aswell ..

The lancer which is coming down is the 4G63 Engine. It is detuned but its the same engine. So it will be good. its a 5 speed gearbox. Lets see when it and ever does launch here in india.. The looks are of the EVO VII.

jus came up wid this article the car here looks like a diamante or is it the lancer sedan ?
(http://www.autocarindia.com/news/newsinside.asp?newsid=3366&type='General') this one says it'll come wid an INVEX motor slightly bigger dan the dat runs the current lancer invex 1.8L ...which means the diamante will be reduced from a 3.5 litre v6 to a 2.0L straight 4 ..either ways the current gen indian lancer looks way more sporty ...
this is the complete Mitsubishi lineup for '04
(http://ca.autos.yahoo.com/newcars/details/mitsubishi04lancer/model_overview.html?refsrc=autos/home)

cheers

Mitsubishi has some exciting machines...the only question is their zero investment in India and presence through HM!!

I doubt they will bring in the new Lancer generation with any other engine than their current petrol range. Hopefully they launch the 1.8 with a manual gearbox. The irony is that....the Lancer once enjoyed a certain amount of prestige in the new car market. Today its image is down in the dumps and their own showroom in Bombay is barely managing some 4 cars a month.

hey true dat ..at one time lancers were the most prestigious cars to own, they r still one of the best looking cars ..blame it on HM ..they ruined it for themselves ..so much dat lancers started coming wid the same tires as the ambys ...
the 1.8 invex will be fun to drive wid a manual stick ..it'll 124 horses to some gud use ..

Dats true. Mitsubishi is a good brand. But has failed to do marketing due to HM. Mitsubishi Handling is very difficult to match by its competitors. And most mods were done on cars starting from the Mitsubishi Lancer. It has one of the deepest engine roar when put with a free flow exhaust but its all noise. Dont see the car flying past that much. Top end power yes but not sufficient. Its sad.. Should have another engine in the same car. THen it would be some fun. Imagine if they got the EVO engine 4G63. Then it woudl be fun to drive.

If it does come to india and is priced 9-11L as you say, then that seems like a good deal. But as people have mentioned the Lancer has a very bad image right now and it'd be more worthwhile to introduce a new model than to revive the image of the Lancer.

I dont think the 150 hp motor will make way to India at least in the Lancer , coz pricewise it will enter the corolla and skoda territory.
All we can except is a 120 hp Invex motor with a manual stick.

No ways. The Lancer Invex takes 11.3x seconds to get to the 100. And has a top speed of 178 kph. The Corolla is far far faster than that.

sorry GTO
lancer invex takes 11.31 secs too 100

corolla at -
0-100 in 11.6x secs
throughj the gears the corolla is faster but in terms of overall performance it will be an intresting match to watch though i doubt the lancers top speed .. should be more ...
corollas topspeed not mentioned ...

The Corolla takes anywhere between 8.8 seconds to 9.8 seconds (varied sources like BSM, ACI etc.) to reach 100 kmph. Its top speed is in the range of 191-192 kmph.
