Audi starts production in India.

Audi has decided to start production of it's upper midsize sedan the A6 here in India at it's Aurangabad facility.

This will be followed by the new A4 sedan by the end of 2008.

Audi plans to build 300 A6's in 2008.

i think the 2.8fsi, 3.2fsi and the 2.7 tdi were introduced when they started production here. before that they only had the 3tdi and fsi. (my friend has had a 3.2fsi since may though. they imported it as a 3.0fsi)

Guys,
we are actually thinking of buying an Audi 3.2 FSI/3.0TDi so I just wanted to know if the prices would be dropped down once production commences or whether it would remain the same.
Thanks

Prices have been dropped by around 2 lakhs according to ET. I am sure the savings are much higher but Audi is deciding to pocket it.

A comparable Audi should be 10% cheaper than a Merc with BMW in between.

Sounds good! It would really make a difference to the way car buying is perceived in India. More brand names, means a better car market.
I just hope that when such car brands come to India,it brings along with it some kind of tutorial to make its customers (and in due course,to spread the message) better drivers & improve the driving conditions in India.

Ideally, a tie-up with the Govt to implement such measures would be the ideal senario..
Asking for too much.. i know..

What about the A8, do they plan to produce it here, the A8 is priced almost around Mercedes S Class Levels, which doesnot make it VFM at all. I think the S Class is produced here(not sure though)

@Busa - The A8 is actually cheaper than the S Class.

@Mpower - would you by any chance knowing if the drop in price has already taken effect?

"produced" is misleading. they just assemble here. not even foot mats are produced here! so I am just curious, how will it lower the price?

The prices have come to the level of its rivals now. There is also another engine added to the line up... the 2.8 Tdi

Internationally Audi has always pitched itself as more VFM when compared to BMW and MB. Whereas in India they are at par with the pricing and specs are better than the E-class but not up to the level of the 5 series.
I don't think there has been much offtake since the CKD version have been on sale for a few months now and I have just seen one 2.8 Tdi on the streets.

BUSA- I dont think they have plans of getting the A8 in as CKD. Most cars in that bracket are imported but yes Audi can have an advantage on price if they start assembling it here and bringing the price down would see an instant boost in sales. The gap within the 60-90 lakh bracket needs to be filled up and the A8 could bridge the jump most people as hesitant to take... upgrading from an E class or 5 series straight to the S class or 7 series.

I believe it has. It would coincide with start of local production.

The New A4 in CKD form would really do fantastic sales as it would appeal to the VFM minded german car enthusiasts.
