I am curious now. I am getting 2 years extended warranty from both the Fiat dealers in Pune. I'll check if this is dealer's warranty.

Lambo, although I have not made any decision yet, I don't think I'll wait for too long.

I've PalioSportsNV bought in Sep04. I did manage to get the 2 years extended warranty at 1/2 rate (normally cost 5600) from a dealer in Pune as a part of deal. It will indeed be a good idea to go for it.

Thanks all for your suggestions.
I checked with my dealer in Pune. He is saying it is corporate warranty and not from the company. His personal openion is not to go for it. He says it covers very few parts and they have lots of restrictions. He has asked me to visit him for discussing this. But this wont be possible till weekend.

i have a accent viva crdi jan 2006 model, i was not given the extended warranty option at the time of purchase and its under the standard 2yr/40k kms warranty!

i enquired for the extended warranty they quoted 7500+ bucks a year warranty plan is the amount worth for the warranty period of 1year?

however i still need to find out whether its unlimited kms in the 1 year or if there is a kms limit!

please help!

its not like you are going to live wuth your car for 1 yr so no extended waranty.if you love your car -like you love your child -then take an extended waranty so that the next customer too will be having that advantage and the ride will be in good shape for atleast the minimum waranty period.

check weather the warranty is given by the company or the dealer and then decide, there are some threads discussing the pros and cons of extended warranty read through them

Now i feel there are two things you need to think about.

1. If you are gonna keep the car for as long as the warranty period exists or more, than its hand down go for it. I own a 2003 opel corsa which had extended warranty, 2.5 yrs in my car stalled in the middle of the road with no apparent fault of my own, called the company guys and they took the car. They repaired the car and gave me a bill of 41k at which point i REMINDED them the car was under warranty after some trying by them for me to pay it they eventually had to comp me as it was covered. Now i repeat normal driving car goes bad bill comes to 41k if it had not been for warranty it wouldve been from my pocket, but remember it was a corsa/GM afterall.

2. Now if you want to upgrade your car (ICE, tyres, ECU, headlamps, ETC ETC) your warranty might be void, and yes they do hold it against you. Also if you have your own mechanic/repair guy it will turn out way cheaper in the long run but requires a hands on approach thus more time.

Think about which car you would buy (track record history for going wrong, and most of them do) and how much TIME you have to invest in it off the road.

Definitely and especially if you are planning it to be a long time purchase. However if you intend to sell it within the existing warranty then no, as Mr Bansal suggested.
