. The Amby won't be completely phased out from govt. usage as Zappo pointed out.

The Amby is India's political muscle car. And the babus know it very well. Apart from maybe Mercs and Beemers, no other car has street prescence as that of a snow white or a jet black Amby with a beacon.

It has been quite some time since the Government stopped buying cars. Now they are outsourced to travel agencies. The government policies have changed a lot in the last 5 years. The Accent simply has been enlisted in DGS & D just like the innova, gypsy, amby etc are. The current trend is to hire Indigos & the latest is to hire logans.

The change from Amby to other cars were tried out sometime back in Kerala and it failed miserably beacuse of the cost of maintenance.

So I guess this will not go on for long. Long live Amby!! :)

Cheers!!

It might be a bit too early to write off the Amby yet. This week's India Today has an item on how Bihar has ordered 100 Ambys for its ministers to replace the newer models they had purchased sometime back. I believe the biggest complaint is the lack of rear seat comfort!

I would have been happy if Ratan Tata convinced MPs and MLAs to use Nano instead, since our Fiscal Deficit will come down

We are definitely going to miss the white Amby with red beacon.

So that means .. new Accents are still gonna be available in the showrooms for atleast an year to say the least.
That should rest all the rumours of the accent being phased out ..
Good news for Accent owners I feel (you see,I am a positive thinker .. )
& perhaps this will also increase the resale value in the coming years .

What about saftey? Also Bulletproof?

What about the Safety Features? Accent can no way provide safety while crash as much as Amby can be. Its sturdy solid also Amby's come in Bullet proof option i guess. Can Hyndai make such for babu logs on order.
Its downgrading rather than upgrading. They are just going for look and feel of smooth sleek sedan.

I am no Ambassador fan, but I feel that Indian govt should support Indian industry as a priority.

Accent is rather small to be a police car. I had stated this previously as well and it lacks the interiors or exteriors to qualify as a Govt/babu car. Minimum for a police car should be something sturdy (putting aside A.S.S) as a Skoda and a babu car should be nothing less than an Indigo XL.

its not like completely avoiding amby, but adding accent to the list .it is a nice move as accent under dgs&d would be attractively priced -almost equal to the amby and would have a modernised air to the babu.

its better if its petrol. the cost of subsidy of diesel is higher than the cost of putting in petrol - so if it remains as petrol, then the aam junta end up spending less on tax.
