But environmental concerns still don't prevent people in the US and Canada from buying huge V6 and V8 SUVs and pick-ups. If you live by a lake, sea or river and like sailing/boating owning one of those big gas-guzzlers is de rigueur. How else are you going to tow your boat to the water? A Civic or Accord won't cut it, I assure you! It's the same with those who like camping. You need powerful vehicles to go up mountains fully loaded up.
My point is: There is a certain type of customer who needs 4x4 traction and extra power. It's criminal for those who don't need it, buying these things to make up for a lack of size elsewhere . The car companies make vehicles that people want and buy. That vindicates their decision to make them. There has to be a radical shift in lifestyle, especially in the West, if we are going to make any headway in saving the planet.

the captiva is not just 2WD its front wheel drive,

2.0 version is FWD only while older 2.4 has FWD with AWD kicking in only when needed!

Which is what the Captiva should have been as well. The new CRV is primarily aimed at the Captiva so they saved themselves a few dollars by not giving the AWD.

The Captiva would have killed the Endeavour in one swift stroke if they'd launched a 4x4 or even AWD

I think both these cars address different type of customers to some extent. Many who buy Endeavour would have looked at Pajero, Safari kind of full size SUVs and not those softroaders.

I know Ford screens this forum, and really hope that they have sorted out the harsh ride. I repeat, that alone will be enough to have thrice as many Endeavour converts.

^^Looks like the suspension is same as before so I doubt if the ride quality would have improved.

I dont know what is Ford Smoking? They need to adress the suspension and the middle row. The CRV and Captiva are ahead where it matters alot, better suspension and better comfort. Cant Ford fix the suspension, the ride is far from being good.

A leaf spring suspension can only be as good. The way to go about this would be to move to a more sophisticated suspension setup.
For a vehicle cost 20 lakhs + on road, leaf spring suspension at the back isnt good enough.

That along with the Rear Drum brakes is a very comforting thought for a Bolero owner.
