Isn't there anything such as a Lobby for automotive guys? Damn!

It is upto the auto guys to talk to Govt. Afterall it is their sales that's getting affected.

I don't understand the meaning of road-tax because there are no roads! The moment you attempt to go out of city, then you pay tolls to eternity.

We pay for giving TVs, Set-Top Boxes that have Sun TV to entire poor-tamil population. It would at least be pardonable if they are attempting to alleviate the hunger, thirst or residing problems of people below poverty line. Using tax money (to get TVs) to get votes is pathetic. Their victory is guaranteed because the people who want TVs outnumber the the guys (who don't want AND will vote)

We deserve this.

@ Nitrus, good that you bought your Safari a couple of years back . If you had bought the top end model now it would cost you 90 K more. Which you think about it is almost Nano money.

What can you expect from a govt that increased the salaries for the always absent , lazy ***, least responsible govt teachers salaries by more than 200 % and issue notices to private schools to collect Rs 800 as school fees. Considering the van charges for pick up and drop cost about the same in cities.

Seriously the TN govt most distribute Weed at Rs 1/ kg at the PDS shops to calm our nerves. Oh I forgot , they have that schema already, TASMAC.

Retail Prices

Is the rate still 8 percent in Chennai ?

For an ex-showroom price of Rs. 908,000 for Linea Tjet, the registration & taxes amount to Rs. almost 99,000, which is close to 11 percent.

The dealer says, its 10% for reg+tax and the rest is towards number plate, handling, fuel cost etc (same with all tata/fiat dealers in chennai).

Going by the 8% rate, the dealers in chennai are charging almost Rs. 26,000 extra per car !

Any idea on the breakup of Registration and Life Tax in Chennai ?
what other charges apart from the above are to be paid ?

Re: Lifetime tax rates to go up in Tamil Nadu

Road tax for cars costing less than 10L is 10% & above 10L is 15%. And registration is around 3 or 4K. Typically there is a mark up of 6K (as in your case too) and the excuse is that they have to to bribe the RTO. Imagine a bribe of 5K for 1 car and the number of cars that are registered in a month in a RTO - Say 50 cars per RTO - Its 2.5L per month for the RTO officers !!!
