Which engine for the Micra? 1.2 seems likely. Perhaps Note and Tilda will also come eventually. Diesel is going to be essential for large volumes, here's hoping Renault help Nissan in this matter.

I have a feeling that nearly half of these 'eight models' are going to be SKD/import jobs, and won't sell more than 1000 units PA, combined.

Nissans lackadaisical approach to our market reminds me of Skodas early days, and even HM-Mitsubishi! They have some fantastic cars, but their attitude / commitment to our market leaves a lot to be desired.

This is all the more surprising when you consider that Renault seems to be on a roll.

More than Nissan, Renault has models suited for India such as Clio/Megane etc. But after launching Logan, i doubt whether they would be bringing in those models as they sell for much more than Logan in Europe.

And Micra looks ugly IMHO.

The best in that segment for rear bench travellers. I await your review, Abhinav.

Nissan to roll out hatchback, commercial vehicles

Japanese automaker Nissan is all set to kick off fresh competition in India as it plans six new launches by 2012, including a hatchback car in the volume segment and commercial vehicles. The small car will be produced at its upcoming Chennai factory, slated to start production by 2010, a senior company official said.

For a long time Press Releases would be the only place we would hear about Nissan Cars!

yes but the Bimmer is not manufactured in india, if the murano is manufactured in india then its ridiculous, but its its imported as a CBU or CKD then its understandable.

They are late.

Simply put, Nissan is too late to enter the indian small car market at this point of time.
By 2010, they might have a new micra at hand and hope that the latest version hits the market.
Remember that Suzuki supplies small cars to Nissan for the japanese market, yes the KEI cars.

I think that the version suzuki is going to supply nissan will also come here as in the form of nissan badged product apart from avaliable under the Maruti badge.

I am actually looking forward to Nissan's small car in India. They have to get the pricing right though. The Micra is an amazing car and if they base their Indian car on that platform, it will turn out to be a sure winner.

Also, it's time they launched the Infiniti brand in India too, to compete with BMW, Mercedes, Volvo etc.
