i was just going through the sales figures (maruti --for sx4 and dzire)

feb 2008--1958
march 2008-7600(approx)
april 2008 --4200(approx)

since dzire was launched in march and thee were only 4000 dzires produced initially.
7600+4200-4000=7800(with sx4)
2 months sales for sx4-approx 2500(not sure just seeing previous trends)
5300 bookings at old rate-now they get 5300x18000(extra)=95400000
i.e--9.5 crores extra

think about it guys!!!

Dzire Prices increased by 20-25k !

Yes, Maruti has increased car prices across its entire range, 20-25k for Dzire & 9-15k for Swift. This is the very reason for delay in delivery as Maruti was holding the stock. The ones who got the delivery earlier than 18th May 2008 have gained 25 K!

The dealer confirmed that all the delivery woes will be over now!

Prices of Alto/Zen also seem to have gone up by a couple of thousands. The other manufacturers are sure to follow this lead.

The price increase is not only with Maruti. I was in Mahindra show room on 17 May 08, where i was told the price of scorpio will raise by 30000 approx as the input costs have gone up. The effective date will be from 20 may 08.
I was even told that all the car makers are increasing the price.

Seems like maruti official website do not have the updated prices. Atleast not for my city (Chandigarh).

Increased prices for all cities are visible at :: Maruti :: Swift Dzire ::
:: Maruti :: Swift Dzire ::

Rather than criticise MSIL one would do well to look at other manufacturers who overprice their products at the time of the lauunch and then start discounting them. GM, Ford, Mahindra Renault and to a leeser extent Hyundai have all done this much to the consteration of the people who had trusted these companies and bought their vehicles only to realise that the same car is available 3 months later at a much lesser price.

Well I think you are wrong there. Buying an overpriced product is still okay as prices of cars have never crashed like RS50000 in one go. It has always been a slow process just like all electronic stuff. It is tough for any company to keep prices constant forever.

Will you like buying N73 at 15000 when you were getting same for 13500 few months back? The answer is NO. You would rather buy an Rs18000 phone whose price has fallen to 15000.

I feel this High price for Maruti vehicles have been done to create room for other MUL vehicles that are going to be launched this year which includes A Star and Spalsh. I think they want to price these vehicles just like hyundai i10. Which is again overpriced.

I doubt they will sell the cars in their stock at old price.
Most of the dealers here in Chandigarh charge the current price on that particular day of billing.
Even if you have booked the car in advance.

Car prices are moving up with market leader Maruti Suzuki is increasing prices by between Rs 1,000 and Rs 18,000 across models to offset higher input cost. Others are expected to follow suit — Hyundai, the second-biggest car maker, and General Motors will review prices by month-end. While, Honda has already raised Civic's tag, Mahindra & Mahindra had also increased prices earlier this month.

High cost of inputs, particularly steel, has been a major factor behind the upward revision of car prices. While it has pushed up the manufacturing cost, key suppliers have also been demanding higher prices, a dual-factor that car companies could not ignore and absorb.

Other car makers said they are studying current scenario and prices could go up soon. “We are closely looking into this issue as input costs have gone up. Prices may go up by month-end across models,” a senior official for Hyundai said.

Maruti's revision covers almost all the models of the company. While ex-showroom prices of the entry-level Maruti 800 and Alto have gone up by Rs 1,500, the Zen Estilo will be dearer by Rs 1,000. The Omni van and WagonR petrol will cost Rs 2,000 more while the WagonR Duo (petrol/LPG model) will be expensive by Rs 1,000.

Price of Swift petrol model has gone up by Rs 9,000 while its diesel version got dearer by Rs 15,000. The price of the SX4 has gone up by Rs 9,000 and that of Versa by Rs 8,000. While price of Dzire (both petrol and diesel) has gone up by Rs 18000, Maruti said this is not because of the input cost pressure but due to the end of 'introductory price' scheme on the model.

General Motors, that has schemes running on its compact 'Spark', also said it would review prices after this month.

Honda had earlier this month increased price of its luxury sedan Civic by Rs 10,000, though the company has held on to the price of its popular sedan City primarily due to competitive pressures.

Tata Motors did not comment on company's plan regarding price hike.
