Hey wait a minute, skoda octavia diesel has a auto no?

I am confused as it is many a times refered to as a hatchback, sometimes as a sedan.

But I think it is actually a liftback, as written in wiki.

Well not a hatch but we have something close.

You are very right, GTO. Tata should indeed take the lead. After all they make the cheapest diesel hatch in India. Existing manual gearbox of Indica isn't known for smoothness anyway. Tata can source a CVT tranny from some well known European or Japanese specialist house and mate it to its existing powerplant. Also Indica powerplant has, of late, been improved in performance department.

Sure we have NHC CVT, but it's big, petrol and 10 lakhs. So, the key words here should be small, diesel, CVT and 5-6 lakhs. Do that and watch the queues. Yes, I think, too, that only Tata can combine all this with 5-6 lakhs. Now, does any one have ears of Tata Motors here?

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

Hey guys, Thought of resurrecting this thread.

No doubt there is a definite market for diesel auto hatchback. But in the last two years is there any plans announced by any automaker to cash in on this segment?

would also be interested to know if there is any automatic hatch with any other fuel option aside from purely petrol, such as LPG, CNG, Hybrid etc.?

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

I think FIAT should think about launching the Punto Diesel with an auto box. I think the time has come for the management to realize that it cannot capture the market without coming out with a product which will totally improve it image. Just like the Swift helped Maruti.
I think FIAT need to come out with either an automatic Punto D car or a Punto with 110+bhp which will cater to the auto enthusiast. They need a product to differentiate itself and help them stand out and the auto Punto Diesel might just be the car.

If I am right, there is a CRDi Nano CVT under development. If and when it hits the market, it would be a case of the cheapest car paving the way for pricier cars to follow suit with a diesel CVT.

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

The other thing to note is that" "CVT" per se is not there right?
Mostly they have been replaced by 4-speed/5-speed etc AT versions.

I'm trying to think if such a car is offered anywhere in the world. Drawing a blank!

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

I just need a nice auto diesel in the ten lacs range as we just have the old verna which is going to be discontinued.I just hope we get some diesel autos option although i would prefer a hatchback but certainly won`t mind a saloon.Hoping for an etios or liva would give an option or the new fiesta which i have heard is coming with the dual clutch auto transmission.I would like a cvt or torque convertor gearbox or a dual clutch one ,anything would work for me but it has to be fun to drive. My wish would be golf with an automatic transmission diesel as volkswagen has the golf in almost all markets where it is present.

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

I dont understand why manufacturers make the auto box only on the top end models. I really would like to get a small hatch with auto box specially for the ladies of the house as its easier for them to use it and I dont have to worry about driving them around everytime, but all the hatches are top end ones which are way out of my budget for a car for the use I am looking for.

I know atleast three more people who share the same view as I do.

HMIL, MSIL, GM, are you listening?

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

Good to see that a thread I started close to 3 years back is pulled out of freezer. But things stand at the same point. Three years on and still not a single diesel AT hatch in the market. Nor is there one on horizon.

I said CVT because back then City CVT was hot. But I am not sure about CVT any more. Because Honda itself ditched it in favour of 5-speed conventional AT. Anyway, that is not the point of discussion here. CVT or any other form of AT, just give us some diesel hatch with auto-transmission.

If Nano comes with an AT and a power steering, then it will be a big hit. And if they add a diesel mill to that, Nanos will be flying off shelves faster than Tata can make 'em.

Good thing would be the forthcoming Honda Brio AT Hatch with the diesel mill that they are testing on Brio. Then Honda sure need couple more plants to get the diesel Brio MT/AT to people

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

Ritz Diesel with automatic transmission would be my idea of an ideal city-drive vehicle and can be used for occasional long-drives. But I guess the manufacturers are having difficulty sourcing auto-trannies for diesel hatches, and even if they do, getting the costing and then pricing right would be a painful exercise for them.

Good to see this thread taken out of freezer. But scenario is still the same. No diesel At hatch in offing. Brio? Really? First, let them get a diesel mill.

Costing? Personally I wouldn't mind if they take out power windows ( I never open windows ) to save cost and give an AT box instead.

Re: Wanted a diesel CVT automatic hatch!

Even though I would love to see an AT Diesel hatch, I think it doesn't have strong business case.

Most people who purchase diesel hatches, do so to save the fuel cost. This means they are cost cautious. Considering even AT petrol hatches don't sell much, the AT diesel hatch number will be even lower. So from a manufacturer's perspective an AT diesel hatch makes little sense.

However I would still wish that GM offers its Beat Diesel in AT. That will make it cost similar to Ritz for similar specs (and additional AT).
