@ Volt: All said and done, Tata is going to meet the BB t'mrow. Let's wait and see the outcome. I still feel Tata will walk out showing "thumbs down" to BB as he is already in no mood to discuss reconsideration of building factory. The reasons are well discussed in the previous posts.

Tata Motors can't dump Singur: Dasmunsi

and this guy has guts to say whats so great about the October deadline. Tata can always delay the project by few more weeks.

Tata must be cursing his stars for going to WB in the first place.

Regards,

Dasmunshi is doing nothing apart from just trying to achieve political mileage for the Congress from this situation. All his statements/suggestions stink of one upmanship so that Congress can be a player in the next WB polls. And he's talking like a true politician anyway with regards to the land, construction done, deadlines to be extended etc. Does he not understand that unlike Govt. projects, private projects do no stretch on till kingdom come??

It's just a politician's rambling which we should not even pay heed to.

NANO on road

HI Guys,

sorry this is slightly off topic but might give some clue, from where first 'nano' might roll out. while returning from sinhgad , pune last evening, saw a MH-14 registered white NANO, undergoing final testing on NH-4. We chased it for good 10-15 mins from flyover near sinhgad to chandni chowk. The car looked completely finished but some digital meter was connected just below central rear view mirror.

I was sitting on left back seat so handed over camera to my wife and she messed all the pictures as it was in manual mode .

Mods: if this is not an appropriate place please move it.

Tata Motors has decided to finally say Tata to Singur. New Nano plant may come up in Gujarat or Maharashtra. Ratan Tata to address the press in a short while.

So in the last ditch attempt, even BB could not stop Ratan Tata from moving out of WB. IMO, they may choose Pune as their next location as they have all the things set up there to make the car.

if thats true, its really bad. on part of westbengal i think this will surely affect the future investments and Foreign investments in the state. inspite of its communalism tag, TATA prepared to invest there to change red tag status of the state. (whether TATA really wanted to change the image of WB, or they have invested just for the benefits the WB offered, i dunno). but this pullout will surely reflect in other aspectswhich is not good. thats what i feel

The Exit is official now.

Tata Motors to exit from Singur- Automobiles-Auto-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times

Quote:
KOLKATA: Tata Motors on Friday decided to exit Singur in West Bengal. The decision came after Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata met West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the state secretariat.

Ratan Tata was accompanied at the talks by Tata Motors' managing director Ravi Kant.

The Tatas are exploring other options for the site. Tata officials have reportedly already met Chief MInisters of the states of Karnataka and Gujarat for the Nano plant. It is expected that they will zero in on an alternate site by next week. The Trinamool Congress blamed the West bengal chief minsiter for the pullout of the Tatas from West bengal.

Work at the Singur project to roll out the world's cheapest car has been stalled since Sep 2 following an agitation by a section of the farmers over land acquired for the plant. Tata Motors has kept work at the site suspended since then and reports are that the auto major is scouting for possible sites in other states to set up the plant.
Good going, TATA. Somebody had to show them!

Joke of the Day (if not the year): "The Trinamool Congress blamed the West bengal chief minsiter for the pullout of the Tatas from West bengal."

Way to go MB!

Mamta Banerjee's political career is over and it serves her right! It will be interesting to watch what her next move will be. Will she ban the use of Tata vehicles in WB from now on? I am sure we will have reports here that TMC workers on a rampage and are damaging all vehicles manufactured by Tata.

Seriously! This is height of nonsense from MB. They lost big time during last election, wonder if they are going to get a single seat (that of MB herself) in the next !!
What will happen to the farmers who gave up their lands ? I wont be surprised if some more suicide cases start coming up !!

Abhi

Anyone knows why locals in Singur are opposing land acquisition?

Sure +1 here. If she becomes PM, then all the FDI's into India will have the same fate.
