I wonder why Hyundai feels M800 will still be dominating the market in 2012

When i was young, i used to imagine flying cars in future(2020+) already in 2008 and i really doubt if this will ever happen till 2100+

I still feel is it so difficult for someone to say come up with a 600cc engine and still use it efficiently to generate 100 BHP and give mileage of 30-40kms.. its not impossible if someone wants to..you just need to convert complete energy coming from petrol instead of wasting it as heat.. i want this in future.. and not flying cars

^ agree, although the near future belongs to hybrids and electrics rather than underpowered 800 CC cars, Hyundai is already trying to develop a hybrid and should concentrate on that rather than a Maruti 800 clone. A hybrid i10 developed in India which is sub 6 L providing 30 kmpl would be a killer car to develop.

YAWN. Been hearing it for a long time. They just don't seem to be in a hurry to do it.

My only worry is on whether Hyundai decided to join into the party a little too late at night. By 2012 most probably the game would have moved on far ahead. As it is, the predominant 800 crowd has graduated on to Alto or higher at times. Yes 800 does sell even today but the numbers are dwindling faster than ever.

Hyundai with its new car (and obviously no mould and press depreciation benefits like Suzuki) may not find enough takers at the price at which they will presumably launch it. There will still be a market for ultra-cheap utilitarian cars but I suspect that will be the domain of Nano and its ilks (read below 1.75 Lakh variety). I do not think Hyundai will ever manage to price this car below 2L.

Guys, you are forgetting that ALTO is still very much using the 800 cc engine. ALTO is #1 in sales month after month.

The 800cc Santro will compete against the ALTO not M800. Remember Alto 1.1 existed but did not have too many takers.

It will be an upgrade option for the Nano owners along with M800 and Alto.

Hey guys,

Rash here. The 800cc car is expected by 2010 and not 2012. As Mpower said, the Alto has been topping the sales charts and Hyundai for obvious reasons wants to grab a part of that pie. This is the same car that Hyundai is planning to launch for under 2-lakhs.

many indians dont mind the engine size. i am talking about the aam aadmi with very little automotive knowledge. So a santro with 800CC engine is the best option to cut cost again. Hyundai is selling santro for 3.5 exshowroom now. They can cut another lakh by reducing engine size and some other cut here and there to bring it to 2.75 meeting alto's price and a tall boy design

800 CC by 2012? They would be way behind the game. By 2012, fuel prices would be out of reach for many commoners who buy cars. The future would be of ultra fuel efficient vehicles that would be hybrid. I foresee a future for 600 CC cars Hybrid Flex fuel vehicles with roof mounted solar panels and demise of any vehicles that got more than a litre cubic capacity.

Re: Hyundai’s new 800cc car on its way

I came across this cute 2 seater Hyundai car. Is this going to launch in this year. source website showing early 2011. Car looks cute, trimmed version of i10. 2 seater may be with small boot-space.

Re: Hyundai’s new 800cc car on its way

I don't think its worth a try. Alto and even M800 are too deep dug in there. They better concentrate on the sub 1.4L hatchbacks...IMHO the M800DX 5 speed & the Omni are the best packages possible in 800cc. Better not try to dethrone MSIL from there so late.

Re: Hyundai’s new 800cc car on its way

I think its high time someone took the big step to dethrone MSIL. Remember Great crowns have fallen over time with patience and perseverance. I think MSIL has ruled loong enough in this segment and should either start giving better products in this range or just bow down to competition.

But as an old Maruti adage says, the competition is no where to be seen at least in the 800 cc segment.
