684cc diesel engine ??What would the power output be ? doesn't the tata ace use the same engine ?(which is essentially half the block of a tata indica ?). The power would be pretty sad. On a positive note : it would have amazing FE .

Yes I also heard about it, but I was of the impression that it will be a 800cc. Diesel! But anyways, this engine should be good enough for Nano, apart from being the smallest Diesel engine in the world!(maybe)

Although the block would most probably be one half of the Indica powerplant just like the Ace, power would be hiked due to the new common rail injection unit being developed by Bosch. This is a very potent combination, the potential of a sub 1.5Lac small car with a FE diesel engine is humungous in our country. Forget present competition its almost impossible to get a viable & dependable diesel second hand alternative.
Everyone from small families, auto drivers, young proffessionals, taxi wallahs, delivery guys etc..etc... would be in the q. Maybe put in a deposit now and take delivery in a year.

The only competition in sight is the secretly developed Maruti Bannerji
Guess Tata has no answer to that, heh

Great. And more over this car will not have the extra cess for the Diesel big cars Umm...

Yes, surely this is going to sell with a premium in market if TATA is not able to keep the supply for the demand.

Oh I so hope these would move the polluting / noisy and dangerous Bajaj Autos off the street, although, I believe, a CNG/LPG Nano would be a better replacement.

If it is newly developed by Bosch, it cannot be Indica engine, right?

Could be too late. By then the dual pricing for diesel could well be in place.

even without a CRDE engine the new tata diesel autos are overtaking little petrol hatches with ease on kerala's highways. the low end torque in that baby monster is amazing.

it will be interesting to see what happens when they go turbo in the nano

Can only imagine the stupendous FE of this small diesel. Tata's priority will be to control NVH levels. I still expect an earlier launch for the diesel...2010 is too long a wait.
