I voted for performance.

Looks are basically a meaningless thing as long as a car manages to perform good.

The things I would look forward when buying a car:
1) A.S & S.
2) Reliability ( includes GC ).
3) Safety.
4) Maintenance cost ( specially cost of spares ).
5) FE.
6) Performance.
7) Ride quality.
8) Resale.

It depends on city:highway ratio. I would vote for performance with average looks.

If it is a car which will be mainly driven in the city, then looks matters the most with average performance. There is lack of quality road space in a place like Bangalore to appreciate the capabilities of a high performance engine in the city.

According to me, a car with mix of looks & performance would be expensive to buy.

Ultimately, what really matters is the performance and comfort.
You are going to spend more time driving your car than drooling over it.
Hence, the car's fuel-efficiency, pick-up/acceleration, handling, legroom, overall space etc. are more important.
Looks are mainly important in order to attract public attention initially during the launch so that the car becomes the talk of the town.
That said, if good looks and performance come together in a single package, then nothing like it!

Quite a few of my friends buy a car because it looks good and big and has a status symbol... doesn't matter if they handle like a sofa. Thus reason for this thread.

Well,
If I had to choose, it would be performance.
But for me other priorities are higher such as safety and FE etc.
Right now I drive a Fiesta TDCi and I love the way she handles.

I'll stick to performance! Imagine an ugly-duckling car beating a streamlined beauty at a red light or a highway! :P Won't that be a major turn off

preffer a mix of both

I would actually preffer a mix of both..
If i had a beautiful car, Ill feel good every time i look at it.. but if it lets some super thin guy on a (terribly) modified HH splendor overtake me .. , then ill be very disappointed!!

Ideally, both . I am big on performance as well as looks. However, if you had to push me against the wall, I'd choose performance any which day.

As others have posted, we ain't Team-BHP for nothing!

Sheer performance. But nowadays, there are so many performance cars with good looks that the ones with only good performance are not usually on the list of potential buyers. cheers:

I'm tempted to say all performance. But you DO need a sexy-as-hell car to turn heads once in a while. We're all human
